'To my friend D. Rafael Andarias', by Juan Legaz Palomares

May 09 from 2020 - 01: 00

I have carefully read the interview with Dr. Andarias in Jávea.com (Xàbia.com from 06 May 2020). I was quite shocked when he says, after 23 days in the ICU: "I am afraid of catching it again". In addition, he counts his physical and muscular weakness, and that he is learning to walk. And insists: "That people do not trust and follow precautions, because until the vaccine arrives we must persist in safety, hygiene and concern measures".

He reports that the Covid-19 has changed everyone's life. And he ends the interview, pointing out: “I have noticed the warmth and support of the people of Jávea, in addition to my family and friends. I have seen a Javea that I did not know, a solidarity Xàbia ”.

Friend Rafael, from Murcia in the distance, I want to tell you that I have lived with unease the terrible situation you have been through and, although it is not in Jávea, I am in love with my beloved Xàbia and its people. I want to bring up the words that a friendly doctor interspersed with a coronavirus patient. This doctor refers me one of the cases with which he has to face daily.

And he indicates to me: one of the patients I care for: "I caress his face and say: Easy, do you want to tell me something before falling asleep? I go up to him and tell him that we are going to put a tube on him to help him breathe better, that I am going to sedate him and that he is not going to find out anything, that it is not going to hurt ”.

My friend is an internist and he tells me that this is one of the installments that he has begun to write, and in which he tells how he is living professionally and personally a pandemic that has placed him on the front line of battle, since he works in the ICU, the unit where the most serious cases of the coronavirus are treated. She explains to me with tears in her eyes, how the sick are moved when they perceive those words of encouragement and affection that we show them in these anguished moments that suffocation prevents them from even saying a word, but their smiling face is the most reliable proof that "A caress also heals".

I think that something similar would be said to you by your colleagues and other toilets. The emotion that I have felt for your healing has awakened in my heart to offer you the best that we have inside - affection and friendship - to try to encourage you and find a way to give you a pinch of happiness now that, I am sure you need it.

Joy, smile and pleasure are served. With your enormous work directing the Living Chess every year, in favor of promoting the cultural assets that must be the "Alma mater" of our existence, and a legacy that we must be willing to leave to future generations so that children grow in love for culture and wisdom. That way they will be good citizens. Pythagoras already said: "Educate the children and it will not be necessary to punish the men."

And since almost any characteristic of people is talked about once they have passed away, this time I have preferred to do it in life.

So, cheer up Dr. Andarias. Jávea needs you as a doctor and as a friend, and the Living Chess of Les Festes de la Mare de Déu de Loreto.

A hug, even if it is virtual.
