Xàbia studies new measures to protect posidonia

August 27 from 2019 - 10: 21

In the plenary session of the City Council of Xàbia, corresponding to the month of August, Compromís spokesman, Juan Cardona, asked the government team for answers about what measures are going to be taken to protect the coast.

The city councilor of beaches, Kika Mata, explained that "We are in contact with the Balearic Government to follow the model of use of buoys in Formentera, in which a reservation is requested, although we do not intend to set a fee."

It should be noted that this summer a total of 70 buoys have been installed, a small number due to the large influx of boats that come to spend the day on our coast and that finally end up pulling the anchor.

Also, the mayor, José Chulvi, intervened explaining that the next September 21 will present an amendment in the plenary of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces "So you can fine those ships that throw the anchor over the posidonia."

For his part, the spokesman for Citizens, Enrique Escrivá, asked about the intention of carrying out an informative campaign to prevent Posidonia, to which Chulvi replied that "We are doing an awareness job with the Yacht Club, Marina Nou Fontana, diving clubs, Fishermen's Association and tourism companies."
