16 March 2024 - 07: 34

For lovers of machine music, Zigurat, Manssion, Masia, Central, Piramide or Rockola will surely sound familiar; the name of some of the well-known nightclubs of the late 90s and early 2000s. These places were the main party meeting point and where more than one spent entire nights vibrating to the music. The discos were spread throughout the entire Community; Xàbia, Benidorm, Segorbe, Almoradí, Cabanes or Silla, but distance was not a problem.

The success of these large venues had a common denominator, good music, and those responsible for this were the DJs. Making a place for yourself in this world and becoming the resident DJ of the trendy nightclub was a dream for many, but not impossible. This is what Pablo Palazón, known as DJ Palas, tells us.

Pablo was born in Xàbia in 1982 and at just 16 years old - in 1998 - he began to enter the world of music. «It all started when I started to study in Cheste (Valencia) and I found a classmate who was DJing, I listened to his tapes and I wanted to try. I started with the two technics decks of my father, who was also a DJ, and I liked the experience.

His passion for DJing and dedication to making it perfect was growing. He began to participate in different contests held in renowned nightclubs, winning at Rockola -Silla- and sharing a booth with Ismael Lora and Miguel Serna until the end of the season.

From there his name 'Palas' - as an abbreviation of his surname given by a teacher - began to occupy the booths of other clubs, being for two years the resident DJ of the club 'The Moon' in Xàbia. In 2006 he had a monthly residency at Piramide after winning the prize in a DJ contest and managed to stay for a new season sharing a booth with the best national and international DJs and later as a weekly resident.

Own productions

But in this world, it's not just DJing or making good mixes. DJ's also create, they make their own songs. DJ Palas, in the beginning he started producing “but I didn't like it. It is true that you are always proud to play your song, I have a little song that won a national award in 2008 as best song but I have not played it almost at all since I consider that it is not up to the level of my aggressive sessions. Even so, Pablo Palazón considers that to be a good DJ “it is not necessary or primary to produce, for me what you have to achieve is to move people. I like to DJ, I don't care who the topic is, I like to DJ when there are people, and I enjoy it more every day.

Palas, in his more than 20 years dedicated to music, has released 10 albums on the market in vinyl format, of which, 'DJ Palas I need to tell you' was awarded in 2008 as Best Dance Song at the national DJ Oners awards. and the album 'DJ Palas xa parriba' was the best newstyle/jumpstyle song of 2009 at the DJ Oners. He has also recorded two compilations in CD format, 'Piramide returns the rave' and 'Piramide the global music'.

Dream come true: Central's resident DJ

Fighting for what you want is the triumph of life. Palas considers himself a very perfectionist, which has also led him to achieve his dream. Now he is Central's resident DJ, "when I was younger I used to party at Central and dreamed of one day playing here," recalls our protagonist, who adds that today, that wish "is a dream come true. "I am very happy to be able to work at Central."

Dj Palas has been working in Central Rock for a few years with the legendary Javi Boss and Juanma. In these 25 years, music has changed a lot, «when I started what you could hear at parties was Maquina and with the passage of time there has been a lot of evolution and many variations. DJing is now easier. You have the option to change the song right away, if you see that it is not working as you expect you can change it very quickly, I have like 15.000 songs on my computer and if I had to search through vinyls it would be crazy.

Among his favorite songs is one by Kay Cee, 'Milennium String', "for me it's a great song. I've always listened to hardcore from professionals but there are also people who send me songs they compose and I give them my opinion. I advise anyone who wants to be a DJ to do it, it is a complicated job, but if you like it, go ahead, although always with your feet on the ground. "You can still be up and fall very quickly."

The xabiero Pablo Palazón -DJ Palas- has managed to climb the steps little by little and maintain his leadership. For now he can't wait to retire because "the DJ doesn't retire, they retire him. When people no longer dance when you play, it's time to retire. In my case, when I start the session in Central and I see that more and more people come to listen to me, I still have the hope of continuing, I enjoy it, and as long as it stays that way, I'm going to give it my all.
