The Compromís per Xàbia group has urged the local government to promote a green waste transformation plant that changes the model for collecting this type of waste. The proposal is determined by the fire at the Ramblars plant waste transfer plant that occurred on November 21 and caused "a multitude of smoke nuisances to the residents of Xàbia, Gata de Gorgos and Poble Nou de Benitatxell," he points out. the formation.

Compromís per Xàbia ensures that this measure could prevent future fires and, in this way, profitability would be obtained from the waste. The idea they propose is that the supposed collection plant transforms vegetable waste into "pellet-type" charcoal. In this way, "this waste would be given a second life and could be used by industry and heating for homes, among other uses."

Juan Cardona, spokesperson for the training, stated: «We must break with the linear economy model in waste treatment to move towards the circular economy and the reuse of waste. For this reason we believe that Xàbia should propose to the consortium the implantation of this type of plant to give a second life to all the waste from gardening, agriculture and others ».

From the training they point out that this proposal is viable at the local level, since the city council has a surplus, in addition to being scalabrous at the regional level. Cardona explains: «Many towns in our region suffer from the same problems and could be involved in pooling resources to promote the project. A plant that in addition to taking advantage of the waste would allow us to obtain extra income from the sale of the product that could go to improve all kinds of local services.

Finally, it has been indicated that this could be part of a circular economy strategy that promotes a municipal compost heap, door-to-door collection, energy use and the integral water cycle.
