Double triumph of Club Escacs Xàbia "A" in the County Championship Chess Championship in Calpe

The Club Escacs Xàbia "A" team was the winner of the Absolute category of the "XXIII Regional Chess Championship" which was held at the House of Culture of Calpe.

An event that included the participation of 17 teams from the towns of Benissa, Calpe, Denia and Xàbia and the team from L'Illa de Benidorm. The Tournament divided into two categories; 8 teams from the under 16 category and 9 teams from the Absolute category.

In the U 16 40 involved children aged between 6 and 16 years of age and senior level 36 featured the best players in the entire Marina Alta region.

Los Javienses, with a team made up of Francisco Morató, Antonio Aguado, Bob Arnot and José Mª Navarro, was the best, surpassing the Benissa "A" Chess Club in the classification, which was second, and the Calpe "A" Chess Club team, which was the third.
In this category there were some great games with players who showed their high level, but the excitement was another factor that was present. All players showed their poise and respected the most of his opponents, always prevailed sportsmanship.

In the youth category, the champion was Xàbia "A" made up of young players. Young promises such as Rebeca Jiménez, Antoni Bertomeu, Pablo Aguado and Sebastián Morant, won six games and only gave up a draw in one of the games, scoring 24 points out of a possible 28 points per board. Quite a demonstration of his game strength.

Club L'Illa de Benidorm "A" finished in second place, third place finished the team L'Illa de Benidorm "B" - In these categories, it is noteworthy to see forty children to the boards ensures that if followed this quarry work carried out clubs, the future of chess in the region is more than assured.

The presentation of the trophies was attended by María Pilar Cabrera, mayor of culture of Calpe, who was accompanied by Miguel Ángel García, president of the Calpe Chess Club, who were in charge of handing out the awards.
