Cultivate 3000 kilos of solidarity potatoes for 70 families of Xàbia

For about ten years a network of solidarity has been established between Dutch producers who donate the seeds to a Dutchman living in Pedreguer, Herman Sinnema, who grows on his farm in this town for charity and for Parish Carols of Our Lady of Loreto de Xàbia.

In all these years, on this farm a work space has been created for volunteers and vulnerable people who spend their time to feel useful, meet other people and interact, while producing organic products, whose distribution or sale, in the case of potatoes, it runs for Cáritas de la Parroquia del Mar de Xàbia.

Also, this year they have collected more than 3000 kilos of potatoes, of proportionate size, very good behavior when cooking and very good taste, which have been able to be bought at the Caritas market installed every Sunday in Duanes de la Mar. The purchase of these potatoes allows to meet the most basic and / or urgent needs of 70 families in Xàbia such as food, payment of supplies receipts, rents, transportation, health or schooling for children, among others.

But in addition, the support to this market of potatoes gives meaning to the work of volunteers and workers in the farm of Sinnema, who have learned about the cultivation techniques, quality of the land, types of crops, irrigation systems etc .... all this through the procedures for organic farming, as well as maintaining a crop of some 20 different products throughout the year.

Currently, an 90% of the vegetable harvest is distributed by Caritas as food for families. The rest is distributed in solidarity baskets whose collected amount is also given to Cáritas Parroquial Nuestra Sra de Loreto to care for the people welcomed.
