Compromís asks to activate the public purchase of housing to guarantee access in the face of high market prices
During the ordinary plenary session in February, Compromís per Xàbia has urged the government team, through its spokesperson, to adhere to the decree of trial and error, of the Department of Housing and Bioclimatic Architecture, to have preference when it comes to buying private market housing from vulture funds and other real estate players.
In this way, they point out that the public housing stock could be expanded and access to housing guaranteed in the face of market speculation.
According to his spokesman, Juan Cardona, “There are already precedents in the region of municipalities that have adhered to this decree, with governments of different colors. So we hope that Xàbia will join these to guarantee access to housing for the xabieros. For this reason, we are facing a golden opportunity to remove housing from the speculation market and expand the offer of our public park ”.
To which he added that “We cannot continue to allow young people, and not so young, to go to towns around us due to the high prices of rent and purchase. Housing is a fundamental right, and as such, all administrations must ensure that we all have access to decent housing ”.
In addition, the mayor, Vicent Colomer, has stated that "We believe that the construction of Official Protection Housing should be one of the priority measures of this City Council, since it now has the tools and powers to do so.
