November 06 from 2018 - 16: 02

With the slogan Aigua de Xàbia, més aixeta menys plàstic (Agua de Xàbia, more tap less plastic), the company of municipal waters of Xàbia is going to start up an awareness campaign destined to the local citizenship so that it consumes the water of the tap.

With this initiative, Amjasa intends to carry out three phases in which all segments of the population are covered, from children to tourists. As explained by the manager of the entity, José Luís Henarejos, at the Water Observatory, the citizen participation body with which the municipality's water policies are discussed, "Our purpose is to consume drinking water from the tap, which is of good quality thus avoiding plastic with bottled water."

The first stage aims to reach families, so in the coming weeks will be located a stand in the three urban centers of Xàbia where a personalized glass bottle will be provided to start their consumption at home. For this action, the municipal water company has published a total of 2000 bottles. In addition, public sources will be put back into operation.

Subsequently, the other action aimed at schoolchildren is to provide a type of steel or aluminum canteen so that they can fill it up in the school. Within this stage it is possible that a drawing contest is created so that the students are the ones who design the exterior of the canteen.

And the last phase would be that this action of drinking water consumption will reach the restaurants. Therefore, Amjasa will contact shortly with this group to move this action, and recover what was a few years ago. For this, it is considered to provide them with some type of jar also labeled and the companies with the largest number of workers to promote that they also drink from the tap with the installation of dispensers like the ones Amjasa has in their offices. In this way, the local hospitality could serve tap water to its customers for free.

On comments on the taste of water, Henarejos said that the water of Xàbia is of very good quality, "It is much cheaper than bottled and it is true that at the first sip, if it is straight from the tap, a different taste can be noticed on occasion of the chlorination system, but leaving only a few minutes to evaporate, that appreciation of residual chlorine it's nonexistent. "

Given this fact, Amjasa's manager said that water treatment can not be modified, "The use of chlorine cannot be eliminated because the health law requires its use. The water in our area has a calcareous composition greater than in other places and therefore we are obliged to use it although it is to the minimum extent required."
