Pupils of the Port de Xàbia school collect more than 150 kilos of waste in the area of ​​Playa de la Grava

From the breakwater of the red lighthouse of the port of Xàbia to the part of the Paseo Marina Española closest to the mouth of the Gorgos River passing through the fishermen's area next to the fish market, it was the route taken by the students of 5º and 6º of primary school of the Port de Xàbia School to carry out the cleaning of the coast.

An activity organized by the Club Náutico de Jávea in collaboration with the Ecomar Foundation and the Valencia Oceanográfic Foundation and in which the schoolchildren attended a very didactic theoretical session in which they learn to differentiate waste and deposit it in the yellow containers, green, blue and gray and then they moved, together with teachers and staff of the organization, to different points around the port to collect the waste present there, amounting to more than 150 kilos.

The waste was separated for recycling and it should be noted that the 70% of the total are coming from the mainland. Once classified, 5 kilos were paper and cardboard, 43 kilos of plastic and packaging remains; 32,5 kilos of organic matter; 35 kilos of glass and other 30 of "An impossible mixture to separate" the organizers affirmed.

In addition, during the collection work, the students received explanations from the technicians of the Oceanogràfic Foundation regarding some species they could see. In fact, the sea was calm and jellyfish, octopus and other species living near the coast have been seen.

At the end of the day, the sports director of the Club Náutico de Jávea, Javier Momparler, underlined the Club's commitment to the environment and respect for the environment that surrounds us and "With future generations" that represent school children.

The event was attended by the Councilor for the Environment of the Xàbia City Council, Doris Courcelles, who thanked the Club for its involvement and stressed that the ideal would be "I do not have to do this kind of clean-up days."

From Ecomar said that these acts with schoolchildren allow to raise awareness with the purpose of not "Waste must be collected". and they added that we have to take care of the planet. Also, from the Oceanogràfic Foundation, they indicated that this day is integrated in the Jávea project, of recovery of the marine biodiversity that will extend until 2019.
