Goodbye to a blue flag on the beach of Xàbia
The Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (Adeac) awards each year, since 1987, the Blue Flag distinction to all those beaches and marinas that meet environmental requirements through the voluntary environmental initiatives of the municipal authorities, the population local and visitor and the agents of the tourism sector.
To obtain this certificate, the beaches must have bathing water quality, environmental information and education, environmental management and safety, services and facilities. Some parameters that meet a total of 627 beaches in Spain and 97 marinas and that make the Blue Flag wave.
In Xàbia, until this 2023, three beaches and the Yacht Club have had this annual award, but the list published by the ADEAC shows the fall of a blue flag in Xàbia. It is the one on the Arenal beach. The repair works on the underwater outfall have caused the loss of the beach's quality label.
El Arenal is a 480-meter-long beach, with shallow waters and coarse sand that has all the lifeguard and surveillance services, but due to this action, in which the outfall will be extended to discharge at 900 meters, it does not guarantee 100% of the quality of its waters and cannot count on the blue flag this year.
This event already happened in 2022, despite having been granted the flag, the breakage of the emissary at the beginning of the summer prevented the blue flag from being raised throughout the summer.
But Xàbia continues to maintain its other three flags, the two of the beaches: Playa de la Grava and Cala de la Granadella and the one of the Club Náutico Jávea awarded in the category of marinas.
