Xàbia asks the Ministry for a meeting to address the impact of tourism on the natural environment

August 27 from 2021 - 18: 04

That a business model does not end with a life model. Under this premise, the Javea Town Hall It has tried to regulate the impact of tourism on the natural environment, on the marine environment. Thus, in recent years important advances have been made, such as the regulation of access to the coves, the protection of posidonia by means of anchoring buoys or the marking of sea caves. Also different information and awareness campaigns and major changes such as the pedestrianization of the Muntanyar or the conversion of the lighthouse of the Cap de Sant Antoni in the interpretation center of the Marine Reserve. In this way Xàbia has become a pioneer municipality in the implementation of this type of measures.

But the enormous pressure of the last tourist campaigns has made them insufficient. And it has put the natural balance of the most emblematic enclaves of the municipality at risk. Therefore, the mayor, José Chulvi, has requested an urgent meeting from the Minister of Ecological Transition, Mireia Mollà. The objective is to get the Consell involved in the protection measures for natural areas, not only through regulation but also through the provision of economic, technical and human resources.

As indicated in the letter sent by José Chulvi to the councilor: "our coast is subjected to unsustainable human pressure during the summer months (...) and our efforts to protect the posidonia meadow are insufficient". Likewise, he pointed out that, if some vessels follow the same trend of uncontrolled anchoring, “the damage may be irreversible. We are compromising points of great natural interest, the safety of users and even the work of sailors ”.
On the other hand, the collaboration of the Valencian government is essential, as pointed out from the council, for the development of a Comprehensive Plan for the Sustainable Management of the Coast and the Coast of Xàbia.

For José Chulvi “it is essential to continue offering quality for tourism and to take care of the economic engine of our town, from which thousands of families live, but without jeopardizing the continuity of the Xàbia model and the quality of life of the people who we live here all year round ”.

The contradictions of Mr. Chulvi who does nothing more than give construction licenses in the cove of Portixol, in the Sadinera, third or fourth line in Via Augusta ... drowns a landscape, once idyllic but that daily suffers a deterioration with in the months of July , August and september. Tourism that does not create wealth for the people, and that scares away quality tourism. Overcrowding in the coves, dirt, plastics that end up in the sea, bottles that leave large amounts of plastic and garbage, countless ships that drop anchor on the posidonia and nobody can remedy it. Today a civil guard patrol boat and ships with anchor over the posidonia. Bread for today and hunger for tomorrow. The regulars of the area, those of us who go all year round and help to maintain the economy during the winter, do not have access to the coves because people camp and the capacity of the coves is saturated at 10 in the morning. Lord Chulvi protect Xabia, and stop destroying her. Don't just think about filling your pockets with planning licenses and a fridge car. Protect nature, the richness of the Xabia seabed, and limit boats in Cala Blanca and Sardinera. It is good that you want to follow the model of protection of the Posidonia de Mallorca, but nobody is watching it. We must warn, and if it is necessary to fine, because it is the only way for people to learn. Boats are rented without a license to carry them, jet skis without a license that navigate inside the yellow buoys with the consequent danger for bathers. Stop looking worried and lying with council meetings. The only culprit for the deterioration of Xabia is you and your government, with your licenses and without the slightest interest in caring for the coast and the seabed. Have you ever passed through Cala Balanzá and seen the amount of garbage left by the hundreds of "Sundays" who come to spend the day? It seems to me very good that the beach belongs to everyone but they are like termites, and when they finish with everything as has happened in La Manga del Mar Menor, it will be the ruin of the town. A people that live largely from tourism. You are going to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. Take care of Xabia, take care of its coves, take care of its coast, take care of its seabed, but also take care of those who go all year round and contribute to maintaining the town's economy outside of the summer months.

What is failing is the organization, this city council just wants more and more and still does not have or organized what we already have, the house does not start with the roof. You have to stop giving licenses until all the buildings that have been half-built are finished, in my opinion, having that landscape while they continue to build non-stop is devastating, you have to offer affordable prices and everything with their respective licenses up to date, You have to have each and every one of the streets of Xàbia clean, paved, with electricity and corresponding sewage, you have to have all the plots clean and pruned, a fine for those who do not have it and if you do not pay the corresponding measures are taken, We must increase the educational and sports offer, for all ages for both men and women, that all sports wear the same shield, the same colors and the same Xàbia uniforms (the corresponding one according to the type of sport), locate all the sports courts in one place for easy location, all the parks in the municipality have to be reformed, adding swings for children of all ages and a healthy area for adults. cough. With all this, people would come throughout the year and to carry out healthy activities, such as studying and practicing sports, and not to get drunk and make scandals, due to the influx of people jobs would increase and not only in the tourism sector, it could be put, without any problem, bus line every half hour, 365 days a year and that passes through all points of the municipality and it would not be costly because there would be people using it all year round, we have a municipality with beach and mountains where you can do any activity that you want and you only insist on the same thing, get out of your mental square, open your mind.

But what a mania with which people come all year. People have a life, work, responsibilities and 15 days of vacation a year. Do you live thinking that it is always a vacation? Well no. What you have to do is start changing the economic model and consider the possibilities of licensing activities other than tourism or construction. So if you could come to live, be able to work and thereby contribute to the improvement of Xabia, in everything that you have explained so well and with which I totally agree.
