Xàbia, second tourist destination in the Region with the highest number of places in apartments

Turisme Comunidad Valenciana makes the yearbook available to the tourism sector for another year 'Municipal and Regional Tourist Offer of the Valencian Community 2020', as a result of the statistical exploitation of the Tourism Registry of the Valencian Community.

This report will be available to all interested persons from this Tuesday, February 16, on the Turisme website, in the section on 'Tourism Statistics'.

The new yearbook highlights how in 2020 COVID-19 has especially impacted the tourism sector and that, despite this, a new tourism offer has been created. As of December 31, 2020, the Valencian Community had an offer of 648.761 places of tourist accommodation, 3,7% more than in 2019.

Despite the current circumstances of a health pandemic, the evolution of the growth of places in apartments and tourist homes, as well as in campsites (3,4%) stands out again, which has better resisted the collapse of demand and, in the accommodation as a whole indoor (5,4%).

The offer of places in apartments and rental housing, which amounts to 418.846, has accumulated six years of outstanding growth, with the increase in 2020 standing at 4,8% year-on-year.

Benidorm is the first destination in terms of number of places and in 2020 it grows 3,8% compared to the previous year; The city of València, after the intense increase in previous years, decreased slightly for the second consecutive year, while Xàbia / Jávea, with an interannual increase of 7%, occupies the second position.

Hotel and non-hotel offer

The annual report on the tourist supply also shows that the supply of places in hotel establishments, estimated at 143.924 places in the Community, grows by 0,8% year-on-year. Likewise, it should be noted that the supply of beds in 4 and 5-star hotels, which is the majority, with 52,3% of the total, increased by 3,7%.

From the yearbook it can also be noted that the offer of campsites, with 74.174 beds, grew 3,4%, after two years of stability, while the rural accommodation modality, with an offer of 11.817 beds distributed in rural houses and hostels, has grown 1,6%.

Agencies most affected by the crisis

From the aforementioned yearbook, it can be inferred that tourism intermediation has been more affected by COVID-19. Thus, as of December 31, 1.312 travel agencies were operating, 1,4% less than in 2019, the central houses that represent 72% have decreased by 3%, while the branches have increased. The decline affects the province of Alicante, especially Benidorm, and within the province of Valencia, the Valencian capital.

Restoration and active tourism

Regarding the offer of catering establishments, the annual report prepared by Turisme Comunitat Valenciana reflects that the offer, estimated at 14.921 establishments, has grown slightly (0,7%) compared to the previous year, 20% in the case of the top-notch restaurants.

Finally, it should be noted that the supply of active tourism companies, which now totals 472, continues to expand with a year-on-year increase of 12,9%.
