Xàbia reviews gully channels and clean scuppers before possible heavy rains

For the next few days, the Valencia Region may suffer a major episode of heavy rains as reported by the Agency for Safety and Emergencies.

Therefore, in the last hours of yesterday, the Police of Xàbia and the Department of Services have reviewed the channels of ravines and streams, as well as cleaned the network of scuppers and drains, especially in the most conflictive points such as La Fontana streets and Libertad Avenue, in Arenal, Barranquet street or Adolfo Suárez square in Duanes, according to municipal sources.

And, the State Meteorological Agency has activated, in the first hour of today Thursday, the orange alert on the north coast of the province of Alicante, which affects the Marina Alta, being able to register up to 60 liters / m2 in one hour and 150 liters of accumulated precipitation in 12 hours.

In this emergency situation, the Mayor of Xàbia, José Chulvi, gathered, at noon on Wednesday, the CECOPAL (Local Emergency Operational Coordination Center) formed by representatives of Local Police, Fire, Civil Guard, Civil Protection, Baltic Sea Volunteers, Red Cross, municipal technicians and Amjasa, the person in charge of Meteoxabia and the councilors of the departments involved such as Services, Citizen Security and Civil Protection, in order to establish the coordination and actions to be carried out between emergency services in case of heavy rains.

From the Emergency area of ​​the Town hall Special monitoring will be done at the level of the Gorgos River in order to foresee a hypothetical flood. To do this, they will be in contact with the technicians of the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation and with the police of municipalities in the basin such as Xaló and Gata de Gorgos and monitoring will be carried out at points on the river already in Xàbia such as Ramblars or the desalination plant.

It has also been agreed to put on notice the campsites and cottages in areas of the Plá, traditionally flooded, so that they are ready to vacate the place in case of need.

From the Provincial Council of Alicante, more than 100 firefighters make up the First Departure of the Provincial Consortium before possible floods. Likewise, the sub-officer of the Marina Alta Operating Zone, Javier Fayos, maintains a permanent line of communication with the emergency services of the municipalities on the slopes of the Xaló and Gorgos rivers, in anticipation that weather events may lead to grown.

Prevention only measures

The mayor of Xàbia wanted to transmit tranquility and make it clear that all these measures are purely preventive since, in principle, the last meteorological parts reduce the risk of torrential rains for the province of Alicante at the yellow level, placing the most conflictive of the drop cold in Castellón.
