Xàbia strengthens fire prevention measures with a call to clear plots of land

24 2025 April - 16: 37

With the imminent arrival of summer and the increased risk of forest fires, the mayor Rosa Cardona Vives has issued an order urging all owners of rural and urban land to clean, clear, and maintain their plots.

In the announcement, the first mayor warns that the municipality has registered several fires in previous years that, although they were controlled in time, show the vulnerability of certain areas, especially those with high ecological value such as the Natural Park Montgó.

Legal obligations and intensified control

The decree reminds of the legal obligation, contained in the Municipal Ordinance on Citizen Coexistence and Security, to maintain plots of land in adequate conditions of safety, health, and beauty. This includes clearing debris, waste, weeds, wild vegetation, abandoned appliances, and any items that pose a health or environmental risk.

Furthermore, the dumping of waste on both public and private land is prohibited, and it is stipulated that inactive lots or lots where construction work is halted must be kept closed and in proper condition.

Deadlines and consequences

In case of non-compliance, the Town Hall The Authority may formally request the owners to clear their plots within a period ranging from 24 hours to 15 days, depending on the urgency. Failure to comply with the request will result in subsidiary enforcement, with the consequent allocation of costs to the owners and possible administrative sanctions.

Special attention to agricultural plots and protected areas

The decree also states that agricultural plots must be well maintained, trimming back any vegetation that extends beyond the boundaries of the land. Those with fruit trees will be considered abandoned if the undergrowth exceeds 1,20 meters or if the vegetation level obstructs access.

In the case of land located within the Montgó National Park, work must be coordinated with the Natural Park managers, and the relevant authorizations must be requested in advance.

Finally, the mayor calls for community co-responsibility: "Only with the collaboration of all property owners and the rigorous enforcement of regulations can we prevent fires and protect our natural and urban environment."

El Javea Town Hall reiterates that these measures are essential to guarantee the safety of people, property, and natural spaces, and commits to intensifying inspection and monitoring efforts in the coming weeks.

And when is the city council going to clean up? Mayor, aren't you really ashamed of asking us when you're not doing anything? Walk down Génova Street, this year they haven't pruned palm trees or trees, the weeds and filth are in every street... you have no shame.

  2. Neighbor Castellans says:

The Cami dels Castellans ravine, which caught fire not too many years ago, is imposingly overgrown with weeds. The weeds are invading the road and scratching the cars of passersby. Please, it would be nice if you cleaned it up before it catches fire again. The homes of the residents who live there are in danger. THANK YOU.

And all those dead trees on the slopes of Montgó, etc., what's happening with that?

  6. Maria Dolores says:

The old TOSALET Club is completely forgotten and needs to be cleaned, monitored, and extreme precautions activated.
If that large plot of land burns down, hundreds of homes, both those occupied by year-round dwellings and others, would be a major disaster.
I ask whoever is responsible at the city council to please review this plot and contact its owner urgently.
    Attentively

"The mayor makes a call," not that the press release was made by chat gpt.
