Xàbia recovers the cross at the end of La Plana

17 June 2021 - 14: 46

El Javea Town Hall has recovered one of the term crosses that formerly served to mark the boundaries of the municipality. It is the one located in The flat and that sets the delimitation between Xàbia and Dénia.

The patrimonial element, carved in rough stone, has been made by the local artisan company Artosca, and thanks to the consultation of old photographs, it reproduces the design of the last cross that marked this border, with a shield of the town as the main ornament.

This cross disappeared in the 80s and with its replacement, the Consistory recovers the 16 existing ones in symbolic points of the municipal term, from which they mark the boundaries or the old doors to which they accompany hermitages of conquest or Avenc.

  1. I look says:

and I say… .This is not seen by a Francoist symbol?

Do not you see something against the identity of the nationalist Terreta?

    Isn't it a fascist thing?

    I wonder…

Note: it is probably also very macho ??, right?

Please, what news are you referring to? I suppose the repositioning of the cross, which I cannot understand, unless your comment is ironic. These crosses marked, centuries ago, the boundaries between regions, the entrance gates to the reconquest hermitages and, as I understand it, also the crossroads of the roads or paths that went to different towns. If someone sees something Francoist, fascist, nationalist or sexist in them, I recommend that you read some history ... or go to a psychiatrist.
