Xàbia wants to make the old anti-aircraft shelter of the port visitable

El Javea Town Hall has requested a grant from the Generalitat Valenciana to make the anti-aircraft shelter of the war located next to the port of Xàbia and that was rediscovered last February after being hidden for decades by the brush.

Through a resolution of the mayor's office, the Consistory presents this project to participate in a line of aid for the protection, conservation or recovery of Valencian cultural heritage assets and that is part of the ERDF Operational Program of the Valencian Community 2014-2020.

In this way, the government team continues with its intention to recover and disseminate the cultural and natural heritage of the people, essential elements for the maintenance of a respectful and sustainable tourism. In the words of the mayor, José Chulvi, enrich the offer of cultural and environmental tourism "It favors the seasonality while promoting among citizens the knowledge and appreciation of the territory and history of Xàbia".

This refuge, like all the architectural manifestations of the 1936-1939 war, is considered a Site of Local Relevance and is included in the catalog of the new General Plan of Xàbia (in the approval phase) as one of the evidences of defensive architecture . The refuge of the war was built between the summer of the year 1938 and the first months of the 1939 in the old "caleta del Racó", historic port of Xàbia.
