Every April 23, International Book Day is celebrated, a worldwide commemoration that aims to promote reading, the publishing industry and the protection of intellectual property through copyright.

Likewise, and on the occasion of this symbolic day for world literature, Xàbia.com joins this celebration that pays tribute to reading, books and their authors.

In addition, each year, the Department of Culture of Xàbia and the municipal library celebrate this International Book Day with a diverse program and with events that range from historical and heritage interest to music or children's theater.

This year, the first date is Wednesday, April 21, with the citizen presentation of the project for the rehabilitation and recovery of the Castell Granadella and its environment that is preparing the Town hall.

Thursday April 22 the proposal is a documentary produced by Info TV À Punt about the figure of Amado Granell, one of the Valencians who headed the Republican unit known as “La Nueve” and who liberated Paris from the Nazi occupation.

Meanwhile, the purely literary appointment has been set for Friday, April 23 –International Book Day- with the presentation of the Valencian translation by Carles Mulet of the collection of poems “De la gran Safo soc parell” by Paul Verlaine. With a commented recital format, it will have the presence of the author and the actress Marina Mulet who will declaim some of the poems.

The three acts are planned in the House of Culture at 19 p.m. and, within the protocols by Covid, it is mandatory to reserve a place since capacity is limited. Interested persons can register by calling 965794344.

For the weekend, the programming was planned outdoors, but due to the weather forecast, some changes have been made to the activities scheduled at the Riurau D'Arnauda. On the one hand, the jazz concert 'Valencia Hot Five', scheduled for this Saturday, April 24At 19 pm, the scene changes and it will be at the Casa de Cultura.

This Valencian jazz quintet led by Kiko Berenguer, is one of the most exclusive Dixieland formations on the national scene. A banjo, a tuba, a sax, a trumpet, a drums and a lot of talent. Tickets, at 5 euros, can be reserved by calling 965894344.

On the other hand, the children's performance planned for the Sunday, 25 for April, is postponed to May 29.
