Xàbia against wipes and butts

29 2022 April - 12: 43

The Socialist Party of Xàbia presented, in yesterday's plenary session, two motions with which it is requested to take even more care of the coastline and, in general, the environment.

On the one hand, the government team announced its intention to join the network of smoke-free beaches in the Valencian Community. A proposal that was supported by the entire municipal corporation and that also includes a ban on smoking, not only on all the beaches but also in the viewpoints. And it is that this regional network promotes the creation of healthy spaces for citizens, preserved from the harmful effects of tobacco and the rubbish it generates (it is estimated that cigarette butts represent more than 30% of the waste in the environment environment).

This action goes beyond the different awareness and cleaning initiatives that have been carried out in previous years in the different tourist areas of the town.

The proposal to join smoke-free beaches, launched by the Councilor for Tourism and the Environment, Tony Miragallarrives
shortly after the Congress of Deputies approves the Solid Waste Law, a regulation that gives legal protection to the City Councils to promote the prohibition of smoking on the beaches and coves, which will soon be marked as smoke-free spaces.

Wipes

On the other hand, and in a different motion, but linked to caring for the environment, the PSOE spoke of the 'wipes'. The government team presented its request to urge the Government to oblige the companies of this product to indicate on the packaging that they are not biodegradable and that they cannot be thrown into the WC. And it is that, Xàbia has this big problem. In addition to clogging the pipes, in each storm, thousands of wipes invade the coastline.

In this xicotetion, from the ranks of Compromís, it was requested to incorporate into the motion that its sale be prohibited as well as that the Town hall and the Xúquer Hydrographic Confederation intensify surveillance of the sewerage network that crosses the Gorgos River to avoid possible discharges of wastewater or wipes.

Comments
  1. Marcos Ortiz says:

Banning everything is not the solution, as for the wipes, the manufacturers would have to modify their composition so that they were truly biodegradable. The sewage issue has been going on for years, surely a better solid filtering system, and better maintenance of the network would solve many environmental and public health problems. Let's apply common sense.

  2. Vicens says:

And who throws away the largest volume of wipes???? Tourists . Campaign for them and ask them for a fee to clean up the mess of wipes they leave behind.

  3. Miquel says:

Another measure of restriction-prohibition and also poorly planned, this is not the best way to put an end to the dirt on the beaches, but rather to pressure the tobacco companies and large companies to make biodegradable and sustainable cigarettes that do not pollute the beaches as well. that the ear buds were made of plastic and now they are made of cardboard.
Because of the big companies, we all pay for it for a single reason: money.
But don't worry, Karma will one day come and give us back the freedom that they are taking from us.

  4. Pedro says:

This seems like a joke, they take us for idiots, are they going to force companies to indicate on their product that it is not biodegradable? And even if they succeed, those who wipe their asses with these wipes are going to change their habits because there is a note warning that the product is not biodegradable, are they going to read it? The use of wipes is a serious environmental problem, but these would not appear on the coast if the sewage system works and if the rainwater is not connected to the sewage.

  5. Anonymous says:

They want to fix the wipes without fixing the sewer, awesome. Banning is the solution for everything, you piece of corrupt, progressive dictatorship in the face.

  6. Ignacio says:

They cannot prohibit while on the other hand they break the laws themselves. If I smoke in any of the illegal places that they allow in Arenal, what happens? Everything is full of illegal tourist rentals, they do nothing to control it, they invent laws that are later the first to break. No, gentlemen, they are not an example of anything.

  7. joke says:

That they put another rate, who wants to smoke or use a wipe that pays another 9€
Who wants to walk through the viewpoints another fee €9 more.
Whoever wants to speak in public another €9 more.

  8. Vecino says:

I think the wipes and cigarette butts are great and the smoking thing is free and it is already an abuse of so many restrictions.
In the end this is not a democracy but a disguised communist dictatorship.

    • Ignacio says:

communist dictatorship No, it is simpler. They are just the corrupt bosses on duty. The thing about political ideologies is only the screen behind which they hide. corrupt bosses.

      • Luis says:

“The government team presented its request to urge the Government to force companies of this product to indicate on the packaging that they are not biodegradable.”…. Let's see if the packages are read, they already indicate that they are not biodegradable gentlemen!!. They already indicate that they should not be flushed down the toilet but people continue to do so, especially tourists who don't give a damn if they cause a jam or where the wipe goes. Who do they say you want to force what? Enjoy the crap of all those who bring from Tourism selling you the Mediterranean lifestyle, most think it consists of sunbathing, getting drunk and doing nothing.
