Xàbia increases the capacity of its beaches with the approval of the Contingency Plan against COVID-19

27 July 2020 - 17: 24

El Javea Town Hall has approved, unanimously, in the ordinary plenary session in July, the Beach Contingency Plan prepared against COVID-19. This plan establishes a series of safety actions, in order to take advantage of and enjoy the natural area of the coast following the recommendations of the Ministry of Health.

Among the measures contemplated in the Contingency Plan, there is, on the one hand, an increase in capacity in some of the Xàbia beaches, as well as a limitation on other beaches and coves not contemplated in the provisional measure that the City Council marked until the Contingency Plan was finalized.

Thus, the Grava beach, located in Duanes de la Mar, has a capacity of 225 people. In the First Montañar beach o Benissero, which up to now had no capacity limitation, now has a maximum of 779 bathers. Similarly was the Segundo Montañar beach, which now has a capacity of 200 people and Cala Blanca (Caleta), of 150 users.

For its part, the Arenal Beach, which had an estimate of 2.000 bathers, now contemplates a maximum capacity of 5.025 people.

As for the coves most in demand by tourists, which until today have completed capacity since early in the morning, the Cala de la Barraca or Portitxol and the granadella, their visitor limitation is considerably increased. Specifically, the Cala del Portitxol or Barraca goes from having a maximum of 150 bathers to 475; and in Cala de la Granadella the capacity is increased from 200 to 603 people.

The gauging has been calculated so that each person has a space of more than 4 square meters. Likewise, this document also includes the measures taken by the administration regarding cleaning and surveillance to guarantee the health safety of users.

The contingency plan also reflects other security-related issues, such as access roads, evacuation, or the means of safety and rescue or other services.

A measure that should explain, with the reasons that have led to it, the beach councilor Mr. Miragall, because when we are trying to comply with distances and other security measures against the spread of COVID-19, this council decides to increase the capacity of spaces already reduced to a limited capacity. The estimates (strange that it is the first time they are made) are not adequate to real figures, you just have to stop and count, a question that they do not seem to have done. (The media that have published this news as it is have not 'stopped' to question or verify it, they have reproduced it, period, as is usual).

In my opinion, this measure is completely incomprehensible given the other precautions. The more people, the greater the risk of infection.

  3. xabiero says:

Here there is something that does not add up, the gravel beach housed 225 bathers and remains the same, playa del arenal goes from 2000 to 5025 bathers and the coves portitxol, granadella and barraca triple the capacity or before they had counted badly or now they have forgotten about the beach of the gravel, another option is that it gives the impression that the port interests them very little since the beach of the gravel is super dirty from the temporary glory (month of January) and lack of investments and police vigilance.

  4. funnel on the head says:

Now I really don't understand anything. Outbreaks, international quarantines, closure of stores in neighboring towns ... and we tripled the capacity of the beaches. What a couple of eggs, buddy.
