Union in Xàbia to find a solution to the dumping and contamination of wipes

30 March 2021 - 11: 39

In the plenary session of Xàbia held yesterday Monday it was agreed to start an analysis of the situation of the sanitation and sewerage network. This joint decision was taken as a result of a motion presented by the Popular Party on the problems caused by sanitary napkins, since a week ago, there was a leak of fecal discharges and wipes in the Gorgos river.

All city spokesmen voted to come together and work together to find solutions to prevent spillage and contamination of wipes. All the groups have agreed that, given the complexity of the challenges surrounding sanitation, the best thing to do was to leave this proposal on the table and put forward a more general commitment endorsed by all political forces.

In this way, a global study of the system will be promoted, in which its sewerage network and its possible deficiencies will be analyzed, establishing a work plan with all the actions that can be promoted from the municipality in order to improve management.

Likewise, as indicated by the first mayor, José Chulvi, this commitment will be transferred to the informative commission on urban planning and works, and will also seek to involve the municipal water company, Amjasa.

The sanitation network and the wastewater treatment plant (EDAM) of Xàbia are managed by a private company under a concession regime promoted by the Public Entity of Wastewater Sanitation of the Valencian Community (EPSAR-CV) and that expires in 2023.

  1. Pedro Gomez Toledano says:

Probably, the biggest problem is the connection of rainwater to the sewage sewers. When it rains, the sewage system does not have the capacity to absorb that volume of water, nor does the treatment plant. Consequently, the discharges not only pass in the sewer of the Gorgos River but also in other parts of the town. There may be more problems with the sewer system, but the sewage discharge will not go away as long as stormwater is still connected to the sewer system. In addition, the result of these practices is that rainwater that should end up clean in the sea ends up being polluted, polluting the sea and producing fecal discharges in the poor sea.
