A resident of Xàbia has publicly denounced the refusal of a doctor at the Xàbia Health Center to authorize an ambulance for her mother, an elderly woman diagnosed with Alzheimer's and with health problems on the day of the request. Her daughter complains of a lack of care and professionalism.
According to her daughter's testimony, it all began a few days ago when her mother suffered severe abdominal pain and was unable to get out of bed. Given the situation, the family contacted the emergency services to request her transfer to a health center. After the initial medical assessment, "without performing a simple urine test," according to her daughter, high blood sugar levels and mild dehydration were detected, so she was discharged without considering her admission.
The situation worsened the next day. The patient developed a fever, increased abdominal pain, and was clearly unable to move. The family contacted the emergency services again, requesting transfer to the hospital, but this required a prior evaluation by a physician over the phone. However, according to the complainant, the on-call doctor dismissed the seriousness of the case, claiming that there were "real emergencies. Sending an ambulance costs money and is for urgent cases," and that she could not "be on the same person for something insignificant," thus denying authorization for an ambulance.
Finally, given the persistence of symptoms, the daughter decided to take her mother to the hospital herself. There, after conducting tests, healthcare professionals detected a severe abdominal and urinary tract infection that required immediate hospitalization for five days.
The daughter alleges a serious lack of sensitivity and professional care on the part of the emergency room doctor, especially given her mother's dependency and cognitive impairment. The daughter has filed a formal complaint with the health center itself.
I think it's just a daily occurrence, unfortunately. If it's not the refusal of an ambulance, it's hours of waiting. There's always something going on.
Welcome to Javea 2025. The town of apartments, apartments, and apartments. But with zero resources for infrastructure, medical care, police, taxis, cleaning services, etc., the list grows every day.
In addition to the complaint at the health center, I filed a complaint with the Civil Guard for denial of assistance.
