The candidate of the Popular Party in Xàbia, Rosa Cardona, together with part of the members of the candidacy linked to the world of sport, have met with representatives of sports associations, to discuss the main problems and concerns that both clubs and athletes from Xàbia face.
The leader of the popular, has highlighted the lack of planning in terms of sports facilities, something that "has led, over the years, to a situation of blockade and insufficient public sports facilities, to the point of reaching contradictions difficult to understand, such as, for example, that the Xàbia athletics club is one of the sports entities with the most members, and that instead, Xàbia does not have an athletics track, which is one of the main debts in terms of to sports facilities at the service of sport in Xàbia”.
Another of the examples of improvisation that the Mayor has pointed out is that "the local government has not provided any alternative facility for hockey or handball practice" before the demolition of the current facilities to build the second sports hall. While the racquetball court "will disappear without further ado", without having provided any other option or any other space to locate this court, since the new pavilion will not house facilities to enjoy this type of racket sport.
An even more serious blockade situation, taking into account that the new General Plan approved by the local government, which is still being processed in the Ministry, "will paralyze for ten years, from its final approval, the
development of new sports facilities in the area located next to Freginal de Xàbia”, added the candidate.
Faced with all this problem, Rosa Cardona, has advanced that her team plans to launch an Improvement Plan, Needs and New Creation of sports facilities, drawing up a schedule of needs together with entities and athletes within the Consell de l'Esport.
A planning in which to enable an athletics track, of 200 meters approved, becomes a priority; and a plan with which to offer alternatives to sports clubs, which must have a leading role, in order to continue practicing hockey, indoor soccer and handball.
Some sports modalities that could be performed by setting up a multi-sports track, adapting and conditioning the sports area of Jávea Park. While another of the proposals that the popular team has transferred to the associations is to enable a Pump Track, for bicycles, skates, scooters and skateboards.
Recognition of the effort of athletes
On the other hand, the candidate has pointed out the need to financially support the athletes of Xàbia in the numerous expenses they face, especially those related to transport, to continue advancing day by day and fulfilling their dreams. A situation that must be addressed, taking into account the scant impact of the aid provided by the Town hall for athletes, since these aids, due to their complex processing, practically end up not reaching athletes.
Given this, the team headed by Rosa Cardona, proposes to launch an advisory and support service to carry out these and other procedures for entities and athletes, as well as launch from AMJASA a prize program that consists of an economic part together with a gift card, so that athletes can buy sports equipment in local shops, "so that we continue to take another step supporting sport in Xàbia while we continue to lend a hand to local trade", and in this way, we take a further step in AMJASA's Social Responsibility policies with local sports, beyond PROGRIFO campaigns or collaborations in events such as the granadella Trail.
