A report filed at the Jávea Civil Guard barracks regarding the disappearance of a young Irish man triggered an intense police investigation that culminated in the arrest of two people implicated in his murder and the discovery of his body in a rural area of Rojales.
The case began on December 21, 2024, when the victim's father reported that he had not heard from his 37-year-old son since the 14th, when he last spoke to him by phone. The young man had traveled from Ireland to spend a few days in the province of Alicante, supposedly in Benidorm. Alarmed by the lack of contact, his father traveled to Spain and reported the disappearance to the Civil Guard in Jávea.
Thanks to coordinated efforts by the Alicante Judicial Police Organic Unit, in collaboration with Pilar de la Horadada's team and the Criminalistics Laboratory, the young man's itinerary was traced from his arrival in Spain on December 6. In less than two weeks, the investigation led officers to a rural area in Rojales, where the missing man's body was found on January 7, 2025.
That same day, a 32-year-old Czech man, a resident of Torrevieja, was arrested and considered a necessary accomplice to the crime. He was released on charges and subject to precautionary measures imposed by Torrevieja Investigating Court No. 2.
The Civil Guard had already identified the alleged perpetrator of the homicide, a 27-year-old Irishman living in Orihuela with a long criminal record in his home country. After fleeing Spain with his partner, even abandoning his pets, he was located in Braga (Portugal) on March 25, thanks to international cooperation channeled through INTERPOL. He was extradited to Spain on April 3 and subsequently imprisoned without bail by order of Badajoz Investigative Court No. 1.
The autopsy revealed that the victim died of gunshot wounds the same night he last spoke to his father, December 14. The swift action of the Spanish authorities and international cooperation were key to solving this crime in record time.
