Popular traditions of Jávea: Pilota Valenciana

January 10 from 2013 - 19: 31

It is the oldest sport played in Jávea, as well as the most representative of Valencian culture. The most popular modalities are the "raspot" (when the ball goes flush with the ground) and "llargues" (through the air).
The goals in Valencia are similar to tennis: "quize, thirty, quaranta and joc"
Another important aspect is the bets that are made by a dealer.

The game is played between two teams, usually two against two: one of these is the one who performs the service. The ball is played in the air and only one pot is allowed. There is no referee. When a doubt arises, the player addresses those present by asking:"Cavallers, missing or bona? gentlemen, good or bad?"

It is always played in an open-air village street. In Jávea there was a "trinquet, covered place for the practice of this sport, and that was demolished many years ago, which almost lost the tradition of this sport in the town. In recent years new figures have emerged, and Thanks to them, the fans are recovering.

Currently playing in the Carrer Nou and the Jesús Nazareno, although there are plans to build a new ratchet or trinquet.
