The tribute that Xàbia is paying to the artist Joaquín Sorolla is bearing fruit. On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the arrival, for the first time, of the painter in Xàbia, the town is carrying out a series of activities that publicize his figure and his admiration for the town.
In recent months, the Casa del Cable hosted the exhibition "Sorolla in his paradise", a photographic exhibition of the painter himself, carried out by the Javea Town Hall next to the Joaquín Sorolla Foundation, where the artist's atmosphere at that time could be observed. This exhibition has brought together a total of 3.148 people, who have passed through the exhibition hall during the more than two months that it was in force. Undoubtedly, "a positive assessment, since it has meant a large number of visits considering that it was low season", explained the Councilor for Culture, Quico Moragues.
But Xàbia's tribute to Sorolla has only just begun, and that is that during this 2022, activities will continue on the occasion of the anniversary. Talks will be held, the sculpture will be installed and the boardwalk of the Grava beach as Paseo de Joaquín Sorolla. These acts will take place during the first quarter of 2022. And everything is ready to see the light.
The Councilor for Culture has highlighted that the life-size bronze sculpture of the painter himself is being designed by the artist Javier de Benito and during the month of April Duanes de la Mar could preside.
