The Xabieros athletes, Sergio Tortajada and Iván Bisquert, achieved the challenge of finishing the Ironman Canada. One of the hardest to have 2,600 elevation meters on the bike or 400 meters in the race. Some difficulties that increased since all participants had to withstand temperatures of 36 degrees and turned the test into a real hell.
The test brought together a large number of people who, from early in the morning, gathered in a beautiful lake to accompany the athletes on their way out. And, this kind of tests, in countries like Canada or the United States is something very big, showing a great culture in terms of sports and the environment.
Iván Bisquert finished the race with a total time of 12 hours, 15 minutes and 25 seconds, making a good time, taking into account the adversities he had to face. In the swim segment he found himself very comfortable and came out of the water with a time of 1 hour and 10 minutes.
The suffering began in the cycling segment, since he was 6 hours and 21 minutes on his bike. He had a puncture and especially had to stop several times due to the effects of heat.
In the last segment of the running race, a marathon was marked in a time of 4 hours and 27 minutes. He was very satisfied for having been able to finish this tough test, something that in his debut was not an easy task.
Sergio Tortajada arrived further back
For Sergio Tortajada, this was his second experience in the Ironman of Canada. The thing was a bit worse since he entered the finish line with a time of 14 hours and 41 minutes and 23 seconds. Like his friend, the first part of the test, swimming, he was quite comfortable and spent a time of 1 hour and 13 minutes.
On the bike, the heat made a dent and almost forced him to retire, he managed to recover from a heat stroke and finish with a time of 7 hours and 9 minutes.
The effort in the cycling segment accused him at the start of the race on foot, with the passage of the kilometers he regulated his pace and finished the marathon in a time of 6 hours and 3 minutes.
The support of relatives of Jávea and colleagues of the Trillebeig who were with them in Canada was fundamental to finish this ordeal. Therefore, Eva Escortell, Loli Tortajada, Paula Chis and Marina Tíscar were key to Ivan and Sergio could finish the race.
To emphasize that this ironman does more than 2.000 people. It is a super event where there are thousands of volunteers and people cheering with bands in the circuits, people from all countries, of all ages, almost more women than men.
David Tíscar, Sergio's nephew, participated in the test of Ironman Kids where he managed to get on the podium at the end of the race in third position.
Both triathletes dedicated their performance in the Ironman to Edu Monfort, José Albi and Luis Alberto Contreras, companions of the Trillebeig who died last year. Surely, they gave them a hand from heaven to fulfill the dream of ending such a hard experience.
