Around 12:30 p.m. Firefighters are notified of a fire on the Montgó slopes. The column of smoke was observed from the part of the road that joins the towns of Jesús Pobre-Xàbia.
The fire, in principle forest, has originated in a pine forest in the vicinity of the Ermita del Popul, specifically in the Barranc de Migdia area, according to municipal sources. The area in which the forest mass fire has been declared are several houses. Firefighters of the Provincial Consortium of Alicante, Forest Firefighters of the Generalitat, Environmental Agents, volunteers from Civil Protection and Balcón al Mar, Local Police of Xàbia, which has provided the Sideinfo spray cannons to protect homes, a Red Cross team preventively and Civil Guard.
From Emergencies of the Generalitat Valenciana they report that four air resources have been mobilized to extinguish the fire: three helicopters, one of them the V-1 for coordination, and an airplane. In addition, two forest fire units work, three fire trucks (2 heavy rural pumps and 1 light mother pump), an environmental agent, a command unit of headquarters, 1 sergeant, 1 corporal, 9 firefighters from the Benissa and Dénia parks.
Also, the mayor, José Chulvi and the Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Juan Ortolá, have followed the evolution of the emergency from the Advanced Command Post installed next to the Ermita del Pòpul.
The Firefighters Consortium indicates that the potential severity index of the Montgó fire is 1, due to proximity to homes, but there have been no evictions. According to municipal sources, everything indicates that the origin is negligent, a fact that is being investigated by the Civil Guard.
In the 14: 05 hours Valencia's air assets are withdrawn (2 helicopters and an A-55 plane), although Alicante's own means of extinction continue to be carried out, which are: two Alpha 01 and Alpha 02 helicopters and an A-50 plane.
