150 kilos. That is the amount of waste collected, last Friday, by the 10 volunteers who, in a disinterested way, cleaned the coastline of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell corresponding to Cala Moraig and Cala dels Testos.
Among the debris found irons, plastics, bags, glasses, papers, butts and even hammocks, portable coolers, paella and cooking cauldrons. The beauty of Cala dels Testos is extraordinary, that's why, despite its difficult access, many bathers and campers come down to enjoy it.
Councilman Environment, Manolo Segarra, who also participated in the clean-up day, recalled the responsibility of all users and visitors to contribute to the maintenance of the littoral zone. "The message we must convey is that the cove gives us everything but we must take care of it. It is necessary for visitors to become aware of the importance of leaving these coves as they found it, "said Segarra.
The councilor also wanted to remember that since March of 2017 there is a municipal beach ordinance that prohibits carrying glass bottles, throwing garbage, cigarette butts, cans and other non-biodegradable items to the beach. According
This ordinance, it is not allowed to light fires or gas cylinders, or leave abandoned furniture, carts, pallets, boxes and packaging. It is sanctioned to bathe in the sea with soap, gel, shampoo or any other
detergent product. The presence of animals is not allowed, except for guide dogs or assistance and rescue dogs. Fishing is also prohibited from the beach shore during the bathing season to avoid damage that the equipment used can cause bathers. This activity is only allowed at night, from 21.00 to 9.00.
The breach of these infractions supposes a sanction of 750 euros for the minor ones and until of 3.000 euros in the case of very serious infractions. The littoral cleaning is part of the actions of the Department of Environment within the activities for the promotion of respect for the environment and knowledge of the environment.
