The program "Put a physio in your school", Is a pioneering health project in the Marina Alta and has begun to implement the Department of Education of Xàbia in schools.
Councilwoman responsible, Montse Villaverde, has explained that it has been detected that a large number of schoolchildren suffer throughout their childhood problems related to the back, mainly due to the hours they spend sitting, the weight of backpacks or an increasingly sedentary lifestyle.
In a commitment to prevention, this project of postural education starts, involving the teachers and the students themselves. It has begun to train and sensitize teachers through workshops and now the training is transferred to the classroom, where a physiotherapist will teach children to know their body, postural bad habits or what are the healthiest postures .
It will also give you some guidelines to include them in the class routines, for example, to take time to become aware of how they are sitting or do some exercises or stretches to unload their backs.
The mayor has advanced that, "already starting next month, these workshops will be organized in the afternoons within the complementary activities to the continuous school day, and one afternoon per week each school will have at its disposal a physiotherapist so that it can advise and try to solve doubts and ailments of children, parents and other center staff".
With this project, adds Villaverde, "In addition to introducing the figure of the physiotherapist in schools, we work in health and prevention, since it is expected to prevent mild ailments leading to more important pathologies".
Great initiative!
My congratulations to those responsible for this measure. In the School of Physiotherapists in Madrid, he has been advising schools for several years and training schoolchildren on the importance of postural ergonomics for the prevention and care of the spine.
