Building Plan: Xàbia fights to save stalled school projects

25 2025 April - 17: 21

The future of the Edificant Plan in Xàbia was the focus of debate at the last municipal plenary session. In light of the recent communication from the Ministry of Education regarding the possible suspension of projects in 46 municipalities, the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) in Xàbia inquired about the situation in Xàbia. Although Xàbia has not officially received the revocation of any of its actions, concern was raised about pending projects in the town, such as the CEIP Graüll and the construction of the Trenc d'Alba, currently paralyzed.

the Graüll

During the plenary session, the Councilor for Education, Mavi Pérez, responded to the Socialist councilor, Isabel Moreno, pointing out that "since 2020, up to seven versions of the Graüll project have been presented, all of them requested and modified in accordance with the indications of the regional administration."

Pérez also noted that the complete demolition of the current Graüll Primary School and the construction of a new building was initially planned. However, the lack of administrative progress and the risk of losing an investment of more than €6 million have led the council to reconsider the situation. with the creation of a new educational center, as already announced in March 2024. Now, the goal is to maintain the current building by making accessibility and adaptation improvements, and to request the creation of a new educational center on a plot already offered by the Town Hall.

Goodbye to the 'new Graüll' project: Xàbia will have a new school

Likewise, the Graüll project included the renovation of the gymnasium, which was part of the initial project, "but this option was not considered viable, after discussing it with the center, if a comprehensive renovation of the gymnasium was not carried out without first resolving the problem of teaching capacity."

The governing team insists that losing funding is not an option and that every effort is being made to ensure the committed funds are maintained and increased to the 8,8 million euros that the new center would cost. This option would allow for the creation of a brand-new school in an expanding area, with all the necessary services, while preserving the current Graüll school to continue providing educational services.

Trenc d'Alba and the Mediterranean

In addition to Graüll, in Xàbia there are two other actions included in the Edificant Plan: the CEIP Trenc d'Alba and the Mediterranean. Construction work on the Trenc d'Alba remains halted, and the city council has reported that the updated price reports have already been sent, pending administrative action from the Regional Ministry.

In the case of the Mediterrània project, a project modification was decided, including a new tender, given that the previous company was unable to execute it due to budgetary issues.

Chulvi answers, show your reasons. Come on, bon xic, communicate.

  2. Sebastián says:

The 8 years of coincidence between the Chulvi and Puig governments were of no use in moving forward the Graüll reform, 8 years of unfulfilled promises that remained on the long list of "must-dos" by Chulvi and Montse (Ondara's top advisor) in terms of Education.
