Paul McCartney 'present' in Xàbia!: Cine Jayan surprised with a luxury guest

30 September 2024 - 08: 17

The Cine Jayán in Xàbia, a true cultural icon and the only family cinema still in the Marina Alta region, enjoyed an intense weekend. With 66 years of history, this cinema continues to be a window to the world, offering not only films, but also the opportunity to talk with the protagonists of the films, with the return of the discussions and having a much closer and more personal experience with the artists.

On Friday, attendees enjoyed the documentary 'One Hand Clapping', which takes viewers to Abbey Road studios in 1974, when Paul McCartney & Wings recorded the album of the same name. The session included the special participation of Geoff Britton, former Wings drummer and resident in Xàbia, who shared with those present anecdotes and details about the recording of the album and the musical atmosphere of the time.

Britton, along with Ángela Catalá, a representative of the cinema's founding family, highlighted how difficult it was to bring this production to a village cinema.

The screening of the documentary was a true immersion into the 70s, showcasing the creative vitality of Paul McCartney and his bandmates. Britton revealed details about the recording days and his relationship with McCartney, bringing a unique perspective to the documentary directed by David Litchfield. Some of the footage from the documentary, from more than 50 years ago, was seen by the drummer for the first time.

The former Beatles drummer also spoke about how he became a drummer, wanting to leave the family business to dedicate himself to music, which caused him great anger with his father.

Britton also talked about his relationship with Paul and his wife and joked that Paul McCartney had not been able to come because he was in Brazil. In the documentary, we can see how each member of the group continued with their activities and routines despite being locked in the studio for days.

The road and the stranger

On Saturday, the Jayan Cinema hall was filled again to welcome the director from Marina Alta, specifically from Pego, Sergi Miralles and the producer Mila Luengo, who presented their successful film 'L'Àvia i el foraster', a comedy in Valencian that has won over viewers since its premiere on September 13.

The film, which deals with xenophobia in a close and emotional way, has been a box office phenomenon, attracting thousands of people and achieving important recognition at film festivals.
