Opinion: Personal letter from a mother of the Trenc d'Alba due to the lack of personnel in Special Educational Needs

17 2019 April - 07: 50

This is a call to all non-teaching staff of the Ministry of Education from the outrage and shame that is supposed to call us LIE all those who are (as has appeared in the press). I know that my AMPA has communicated several times and for much more than a year, with the SPE, with the Provincial Education, with the Territorial Education Services and has even met personally with the Territorial Director of Education D. Jaume Fullana.

Telephone conversations, e-mail exchanges, meetings have been held, signatures have been collected and they have been correctly presented ... We have always obtained the answer “wait”, “no” or simply silence. Despite all this, do they have the courage to say that our claim is our request a lie? That being the case, there is little left for me to believe in this "progressive" government that does not help those who need it.

In these moments I consider myself a citizen who has suffered the silences of the administration, punctual alms with the appearance of "top mouths", the ones because and not without foundation. I am a citizen sensitized with the discomfort and the need suffered by a group of children from my school.

It is difficult to concentrate in a few lines the situation that are living in my school, both students with NNEE and their families. Deficiencies in your care range from a late diagnosis or nonexistent, for what I consider necessary the extension of the school counselor's schedule; insufficient attention by specialists of AL and PT because the number of hours designated for the attention of these students is far below their actual needs; lack of human resources to develop curricular adaptations for AACC; insufficiency in the resource of educator, since we only have one in the center, when the need tells us that there should be at least two.

For some time now, we have opted for the inclusion of students with NNEE. The truth is that in those early days, this idea was fulfilled, since the human resources available to my school were absolutely sufficient to achieve it. Now it is not like that, now we have the same resources for many more children with diagnosis and many others pending of this. You can not achieve inclusion when you have to group several students of different ages to join them in the classroom of PT or AL and they can have their session (rather part of it, since they have to share the specialist), which implies remove them from their class and from
his companions, and of course, the dreamed inclusion.

I do not claim anything from my school, because I know that they feel these injustices as much as I do, because I know that they are fighting for the attention and happiness of their students as much as I do. I do not claim anything from my school, because we are a big family and what affects one affects everyone. I see the teachers multiply to be able to attend to all those who need it; I see them form and train constantly to ensure that students have a happy and quality education.

And I wonder, will these of Conselleria know what happens with these children? Will they understand your needs? Maybe they know it, but I think it does not affect them at all, that they do not feel it. In the courtyard of my school you can see seemingly "normal" children, children who do not need anything. As they say "the procession goes inside".

They have a perception of reality different from ours, to those of us who consider ourselves "normal". Their sensitivity is on another level, communication is not always in the way prescribed by society, the assessment of just and unfair things is also different to how the "normal" value it. What about the one who stutters or who does not pronounce a letter well? What about the one who finds barriers everywhere and has reduced mobility? Or who does not see well and can stumble? And like these examples, I could put many more. Why do we speak of "normal" and "different"? Has anyone ever stopped to think that from the point of view of people with NNEE, the "different" are we, the "normal"? As all this is mounted, I can not believe in an equality since we are all different, we are unique and the only common point should be respect.

From here I invite anyone who wants to know our reality to come to my school, to know him. No matter the day, you do not need a date.

For all this I ask the Ministry of Education, the Department of Igualtat, the Ombudsman and any political force, to help us get all those human and material resources needed by students with NNEE of my school.

Sincerely,
A mother of CEIP Trenc d'Alba Xàbia
