The athlete from Xàbia and member of the Llebeig Athletics Club, Nasio Cardona, participated, this past weekend, in the III Vertical Montserrat, the most demanding vertical race in Spain, included in the international Towerrunning World Association circuit.
Cardona was one of the 110 participants who climbed the 2.180 steps that separate the lower station of the Funicular de la Santa Cueva de Montserrat from the upper station of the Funicular de San Juan de Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC).
The one from Xàbia finished this race, with a vertical 1 kilometer and 388 meters of slope (maximum of 56,5% in the Santa Cueva Funicular and 65,2% in the Sant Joan Funicular), remaining third in the classification with a time from 12:24, just 9 seconds from the first athlete to reach the finish line.
The test, for solidarity purposes, aims to raise funds for research projects and social projects to care for children at risk in various centers in San Juan de Dios.
