Half a thousand people accompanied the Virgin of Carmen in her sea procession

The sailors of Xàbia have celebrated, today Saturday, the day of their patron, the Virgin of Carmen, with a solemn mass and the traditional sea procession in which a wreath has been made to the deceased sailors.

At the 12 at noon, the celebration began with the mass, sung by the parish choir of Loreto and with the presence of the local authorities headed by the mayor, José Chulvi, the president of the brotherhood of fishermen, José Serrat and the town crier Moors and Christians festivities, the former minister, José Manuel García Margall.

After the homily, the image of the Virgin has been transferred to the port where the seven fishing boats awaited them to carry out the sea procession: Chorroll II, Chorroll Zinc, Cap Prim 2, Verge de Loreto, Sol Tercer and Vicent Mata. This last vessel, which has done the baptism in the sea of ​​its new boat, has been commissioned to embark and transport the Virgin of Carmen to Cala Sardinera, where the offering to the deceased sailors took place, in the presence of of more than 500 people.

A crew of the Red Cross and Salvamar has left the boats. Xabia.com has embarked with the Chorroll II, patronized by Pablo Serrat, grandson of Roig de la Pipa and Kiko Diego. Once the offering has been made, the boats have returned to port and the image of the Virgen del Carmen has been transferred to the Parish of Loreto.

In this celebration, the sailors have shown their protest, through messages on the shirts, before the fishing measures that marks the European Union.
