Mari Marí de Xàbia receives the special mention award of the 'I Contemporary Textile Art Award'

More than a hundred works have competed for this first edition of the 'Contemporary Textile Art Award' convened by the Gil-Albert Institute. Among the 21 selected works was that of the artist from Xàbia, Mari Marí, which has obtained a special mention from the jury.

The embroidered drawings of Claudia Martínez have been the winners of this first edition of the I Contemporary Textile Art Prize, which was endowed with 12.000 euros in prizes and which includes a collective exhibition in Elche with the 21 projects pre-selected by the jury.

The cultural director of the Gil-Albert Institute, Pilar Tébar, has inaugurated this morning in the Sala Orden Tercera in Elche the exhibition with the 21 pre-selected works in this first edition, which has had the advice and support of Grup De Reüll, headed by Josep Ginestar. The main objective of this new cultural call endowed with a first prize of 6.000 euros and twenty second prizes of 300 euros, is to support plastic and visual creation.

The winning work Black thread poems, ash trees It consists of several hand-embroidered pieces on cotton fabric. This set by Claudia Martínez will be at the disposal of the Institute of Culture for three years, and will remain located in the premises of its headquarters, the Casa Bardin in Alicante. After this period, the author may choose to return the piece or donate it to the IAC so that it becomes part of its funds.

Likewise, the works of Rosalía Banet and Mari Marí have received a special mention from the jury. The rest of the selected works that make up the exhibition correspond to the artists Alexandra Knie, Masa, Paola Ruiz Moltó,
Sara Coleman, Victoria Maldonado, Virginia Jordá Pérez, Maribel Binimelis, Mónica Jover Calvo, José Luis Navarro, Núria Benet, José Luis Lozano Jiménez, Marie Noëlle Fontan, Daniela Castilho Duarte, Art al Quadrat Mónica and Gema del Rey Jordá, Pilar Sala, Marie–Thumette Brichard, Verónica Vicente, Bárbara Long and Elisa Terroba.

The 113 participants in this first call have been of very varied origin: Valencia, Alicante, A Coruña, Malaga, Barcelona, ​​France, Pontevedra, Madrid, Murcia Cantabria, Salamanca, Seville, Granada, León, the Balearic Islands, Bizcaia, Castellón, Zaragoza, Austria, Albacete, Álava and Huesca.
