The Marere Film Festival presents the programme for its first edition, which will be held from 18 to 23 March 2025 at the Cine Jayan in Xàbia. This event, which seeks to establish itself as a benchmark for independent cinema in the region, has the support of the Salom Sabar Foundation through its Impulsa Cultura programme, an initiative that encourages creativity and supports cultural and artistic projects in the Marina Alta.

Tickets and passes

The festival is selling a €24 pass, which allows access to all sessions and activities, including the opening and closing galas, as well as the awards ceremony. In addition, thanks to the collaboration with the Balearia Foundation, season ticket holders will be entered into a draw for a trip for two people. Individual tickets for each screening will soon be available.

Opening gala

The festival will begin with an opening gala featuring a performance by La Romàntica del Saladar.

Sections and programming

The Marere Film Festival is organised into two main sections and a special closing session.

Official Section

It brings together some of the most outstanding films of the festival:

  • Bolero.
  • In style.
  • The devil is carrying it (presentation and discussion).
  • A private bath (presentation and discussion).
  • Being real (presentation and discussion).
  • Inpaintings.
  • Courage (presentation and discussion).
  • The Alchemist's Dance (presentation and discussion).

Regional Views

Dedicated to productions with a special connection to the Valencian Community:

  • The impending age.
  • Hail Mary.
  • Valenciana (presentation and discussion).
  • Scanyapoor.

Bet on emerging talent

The festival will host a special session of short films made by young filmmakers from the Valencian Community. After the screening, there will be a round table discussion in which the filmmakers will share their creative processes, the challenges of the industry and their vision of the future of cinema.

Closing gala and awards ceremony

To close the festival, there will be a screening of the documentary La guitarra flamenca by Yerai Cortés, recent winner of two Goya awards, which explores the mastery of this virtuoso flamenco guitarist.

During the gala, the awards ceremony will take place, which includes:

  • Award for the best film in the Official Section.
  • Best Film Award in the Mirades Regionals Section.
  • Audience Award, where attendees will vote for their favorite film.
  • School competition prizes I like the cinema, aimed at fostering creativity and a love of cinema among young people.

The awards that will be given to the winners have been created by the artist Toni Marí, who has designed these pieces especially for the festival.

Acknowledgements and commitment to culture

The Marere Film Festival has the support of various companies and entities that have invested in culture and cinema in our town. We would especially like to thank VAPF, Policlínica La Glorieta, Sotavent, Andares Ibéricos and Rolser, whose commitment has been key to the realization of this event.

With this first edition, the festival reaffirms its objective of becoming a meeting platform for independent cinema, offering the public unique cinematic experiences at the iconic Cine Jayan.
