Luís Fernández Álvarez was the winner of the 'IV Villa de Xàbia Chess Tournament'

The player, Luís Fernández Álvarez, of the Chess Club Murcia, was the winner of the IV Villa de Xàbia Chess Tournament that resulted from the most exciting of all that have been disputed so far.

This edition of the Villa de Xàbia Chess Tournament had as a frame the spectacular National Parador of the municipality. It also had some excellent facilities for the practice of this sport science, which turns out to be also an excellent showcase of the Mediterranean Sea.

For three days, a total of 78 players competed to share more than 2000 euros and 25 prizes offered by this tournament known in chess slang as the first spring welcome tournament. As in previous years, the tournament was able to gather great players from the Valencian Community, who flee from the noise of the fallas parties, as well as from other communities, who take advantage to enjoy the beauty of Xàbia.

The comxicotetion was very disputed, being exciting, given that in the last round the 2 first classified players and on the second board Chernikov and Moreto finished the last, trying to win an interesting game that ended in a draw. In the end, Luis Fernández Álvarez, player of the Chess Club Murcia, was followed by Carlos Álvarez Serrano of the Excalibur-Albacete and in third position a combative Vladimir Chernikov.

Great level among the youngest players

Highlight the excellent level of young players with Diego Macias at the head, which 2017 was proclaimed sub champion of Spain sub 10 and here made suffer, the beautiful, the hard players of the tournament. Antoni Bertomeu, Carlos Robledo, Gurgen Sargsyan, Maxim Bellver, Victor Tudela, Pablo Garrido and other kids who, shortly, will be the elite of chess at the Valencian Community level. A great future awaits us with them.

Jesus Francisco Delgado took the night Blitz

The tournament Flash The night that was played on Saturday night gave Jesus Francisco Delgado the winner, Oliver Uran Bermúdez was second and Juan Sendra Tormo third. In total there were 16 participants in the night tournament.

The prizes to the best players of the region fell to Antonio Aguado, Emilio Jorge Bort and Antonio Portillo, while the best local players were: Antoni Bertomeu, José Javier Noguera and Francisco Caselles.

The winners by age were: Sub 16, Carlos Robledo of the Enric Valor Club of Alicante; Sub 14, Antoni Bertomeu of the Xàbia Club; Sub 12, Diego Macías from Club Eva Manises; Sub 10, Víctor Tudela de Alcoy.

The awards ceremony was given by the President of the Club d'Escacs Xàbia, Enrique Cervera, who congratulated all the participants and summoned them to the next edition that will continue to have the support of the Town hall. Indicate that the tournament has a subsidy from the Provincial Council of Alicante.
