The titles of single-parent family and large family are extended for one year in the face of the health crisis

27 March 2020 - 08: 05

The Vice Presidency and Department of Equality and Inclusive Policies has decided to extend for one year the validity of the titles and cards of large families and single-parent families issued in the Valencian Community in the face of the health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vice President and Minister for Equality and Inclusive Policies, Mónica Oltra, explained that it has been decided to take this measure "Because we are aware of the difficulties families have in order to request the renewal of these titles due to the limitation of circulation and the confinement decreed by the state of Alama that the country lives in", and that prevents many of them, who do not have access to electronic processing, from doing it in person.

Thus, in order that these families do not lose access to the benefits to which these titles entitle them, it is established to automatically extend until March 14, 2021 the validity of the titles and cards of large families and the titles of single-parent families that have expired or expire between June 1, 2019 and March 13, 2021.

Nearly 20.000 families benefited

The vice president has indicated that this measure adopted by her department benefits 19.323 large families throughout the Valencian Community. It is, Oltra has indicated, an initiative that aims to "to alleviate, in some way, the economic and social impact derived from an unprecedented health and economic emergency and which directly affects the socio-economic situation of families."

Thus, from the Vice Presidency it has been considered that "Not attending to this situation would mean the loss of benefits for families at a time when they need them the most, as well as a negative impact for children and adolescents whose best interest we must guarantee from the public administrations."

To the aforementioned difficulties is added the decreed closure of non-essential administrative services established by the state of alarm, which affects a significant number of applications for the titles of large family and single-parent family pending resolution and whose processing may be delayed.

Oltra has also ensured that the staff that continues to work on the processing of these titles will focus on "streamline the high that are pending" referring to the new titles.

Renewal at the end of the Alarm State

The resolution also recalled that, once the state of alarm caused by the COVID-19 crisis has ended, the beneficiaries of this extension will have the obligation to request their renewal, without waiting for the deadline to be met. March 14, 2021.

Likewise, in the cases that during the period of the extension the extinction of the title of large or single-parent family occurs because the last person descends the age of 26 and does not have a degree of disability equal to or greater than 33%, they will not be able to use of the benefits associated with the title once its expiration date has passed and, after which the automatic extension will cease to have effect.

Services

At the moment, in the Valencian Community there are 66.663 titles of large families and 13.483 titles of single-parent families. It should be remembered that obtaining these titles has multiple benefits for the people who have them recognized.

For both modalities deductions are applied to university tuition and vocational training, points for choosing an educational center and dining room scholarships, discounts on transportation and deductions in the regional and state income tax bracket.

In the case of titles of large families, they also apply bonuses on the IBI and other municipal taxes and access to the social bonus against energy poverty. Families with a single parent title are considered a priority group in rental aid.
