The most hidden treasures, and even haunted, will come to light with the free routes of Poble Nou de Benitatxell

03 July 2019 - 10: 08

The guided tours of the Department of Tourism begin, under the direction of Victor Bisquert. The Poble Nou de Benitatxell proposes visitors to immerse themselves in the history of the municipality through vineyards, riuraus, haunted caves and vertiginous cliffs.

Tourism has wanted to recover the gratuity of the routes, which last year were paid, designing two routes, one indoor and one coastal. The one in the interior, Història i patrimoni pobler, discover the Iberian, Roman and Muslim past of the municipality. Make a historical, cultural and gastronomic tour that starts in the town itself, with a guided tour of the church of Santa María Magdalena, the door of the old wall The Portalet and the oratory Jaume Llobell. Then, the route takes a trip through the traditional architecture with a visit to the Riuraus and Pous de l'Abiar, the archaeological site of the Cova de les Bruixes and the landscape of vineyards. It can be done from June to September, on Fridays at 18.30 hours.

La Ruta dels penya-segats, on the other hand, discovers the visitor the coast. It runs along the cliff and ends at Cala Llebeig. The road is not easy: it wriggles over the Moraig fault, cliffs and ravines. It jumps to the sight why this cove was a nest of smugglers. The covetes, peculiar constructions of stone in dry that they close recesses of the cliff, keep the memory of the black market and of the hard life of the fishermen and farmers. They refer to a time when the sea and this abrupt coast were a territory of suffering and survival.
