The professionals of the Dénia Hospital join the campaign 'I work positively'

November 30 from 2022 - 12: 07

Professionals from the Dénia Hospital, belonging to the Ribera Health Group, will hold an update day on HIV tomorrow, coinciding with World Infection Day. The inauguration of the day will be carried out by the Managing Director of the Department of Health of Dénia, Dr. Javier Palau, who will be accompanied by the Director of Primary Care, Dr. Óscar Morell and the Head of the Internal Medicine Service, Dr. Patricia Martín Rico .

A round table will be held at the meeting in which issues such as the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and de-stigmatization will be addressed. In this sense, Dr. Martín Rico emphasizes that “today the problem of HIV is not the treatments, which are highly effective and have equalized life expectancy to that of people who do not live with the virus; but late diagnosis and not forgetting the proper use of all forms of prevention”.

In addition to the tests that can be purchased at pharmacies, it is essential that suspected patients go to the available devices: hospital Emergency services, Primary Care centers, Women's Care centers or those of Sexually Transmitted Diseases to make a determination of HIV and, if positive, to be able to treat them.

The Head of Internal Medicine of the Dénia Health Department emphasizes detection "since it is essential to treat these patients on time, not only so that they do not develop the disease, which weakens their immune system, but also to reduce the chances of transmission".

Let us remember, he adds, “that when the patient is well treated and with no virus detected in the blood, they cannot transmit HIV, even if they have unprotected sexual relations. However, this is not an obstacle to evading protection, which is the best prevention weapon for HIV and other STDs -Sexually Transmitted Diseases-”.

'I work positive'

Professionals from the Dénia Health Department have also joined the #YoTrabajoPosi+ivo campaign formed by 19 entities in a dozen autonomous communities, whose objective is to destigmatize HIV patients in work environments. They also advise companies to improve their social commitment in the areas of human rights, diversity management and promotion of equal opportunities.

In this context, the professionals of Marina Salud have prepared a video in which specialists from Internal Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Biological Diagnosis and Pharmacy participate. In it, they highlight the importance of prevention, early diagnosis, de-stigmatization and non-discrimination.
