21 July 2021 - 13: 48

This week began, in Xàbia, the 32nd edition of the UNED summer courses, the edition opening the course Down Syndrome, inclusion from the family and school.

The course was presented by the director of the center, Raquel Martí, who welcomed all attendees, thanking all those present and those who are through the UNED platform in the online mode to participate in this course.

Jaume Tortosa, course coordinator and secretary of the center pointed out that “with these new formats to which we have had to get used to but we have not wanted to put them aside, that is, we continue to do summer courses despite the problems of presence and more now that we are in the fifth wave with all the security measures and this possibility of seeing it online and also on a delayed basis enriches us a lot, an especially balanced course, very interesting that provides a plus to different students about things that are not seen in the degrees, we believe that it is a practical application and the Xàbia headquarters is ideal because it is always characterized by a very great awareness regarding social issues ”.

For its part, the Councilor for Education and Equality of Javea Town Hall, Montse Villaverde, reiterated the
thanks to everyone and to the UNED that once again gives an answer to the Xàbia city council: “we intend to offer a summer educational offer but that always has that social component that for us is so important in this case and these times, talk about inclusion it becomes much more necessary if possible because reality shows us that we are not going down a complete 100 x 100 path to what inclusion refers to.

The course director, Professor José Quintanal, commented that the presentations will focus on the topic of Down syndrome, family and school perspective. “We will value the importance of the family to work in direct contact (and collaborative) with the School, in order to empower children with Down. We will focus on the possibilities these children have to develop communication skills and thereby enhance their inclusion, school and social. We will provide references so that, from the School and with the family, that integration becomes a reality, ”said Quintanal.
