Marina Alta's 'Les Pesqueres' star in the new Cirne Foundation exhibition, 'Nits de Tinta'

The Cirne Foundation presented, on Thursday morning, the new photographic exhibition that welcomes in its facilities. In tribute to the men who went down to Les Pesqueres de la Marina Alta, photographers Jake Abbot and Felipe Escolano have contributed these images.

With the title, Nits de Tinta. A unique fishing art, the exhibition collects a series of photographs belonging to his work of divulging a traditional art of fishing so deeply rooted in municipalities such as Xàbia and
The Poble Nou de Benitatxell.

The exhibition, which can be visited until the end of February from 18 to 21 hours, recovers the tanned faces of the last fishermen and is the prelude to a thematic documentary about this unique fishing art of our culture and probably unique in the world.

Marta Ponce, head of the heritage services of the Generalitat, said that the general director, Carmen Amoraga opted for this project that excited her, "This exhibition has everything, people, work, territory and landscape" and thanked the Town hall and to the Cirne Foundation to facilitate the work.

The sample is subsidized by the Ministry of Education, Research, Culture and Sports and after Xàbia it will visit other points of the Marina Alta.

Mayor, José ChulviHe explained that "When Jake and Felipe came to the City Council I thought that it had to be the Generalitat Valenciana who bet on this project, for the sensitivity for culture and the recovery of our heritage."

Photographer Jake Abbott has explained the peculiarities of Les Pesqueres, "some platforms of reeds that were installed on the walls of the cliffs from where they fished during winter nights. Access to Les Pesqueres was intricate by ropes and rudimentary stairs and the claim was the lighting of a light that attracted squid , sepia and rock fish. " Abbott and Escolano also work on the edition of a Photo Book.
