The Department of Housing will pay all the aid requested for rent by COVID-19

November 23 from 2020 - 15: 50

The Second Vice President and Minister of Housing and Bioclimatic Architecture, Rubén Martínez Dalmau, has announced the payment of 4.324.000 euros for rental assistance to tenants of their habitual residence due to COVID-19, in order to alleviate the economic impact and social generated by the pandemic.

In that sense, he has stated that "All aid that meets the requirements will be paid in record time". "We have been the first autonomous community to articulate this social protection mechanism and we have been among the first to resolve it."

The aid, which is intended to subsidize the rental income for six months, is intended for 2.422 family units with problems to meet the partial or full payment of the rent and who are in a vulnerable situation.

By provinces, in Alicante 1.000 family units have been beneficiaries, about 400 in Castellón and 1.100 in Valencia.

The amount of the aid reaches up to 100% of the rent that appears in the lease, up to a maximum amount of 650 euros per month and for a maximum period of six months, being the first monthly payment for the month of April .

This program includes the granting of aid to face the return of temporary financing aid that banking entities have offered to applicants who are in a situation of social and economic vulnerability as a result of the expansion of the coronavirus. Likewise, the public health emergency situation has led to the adoption of various urgent measures to support citizens, especially the most vulnerable.

In this sense, the beneficiaries of the aid from this program are natural persons who, as tenants of a habitual residence, prove to be in a situation of economic and social vulnerability as a result of COVID-19 after March 15, 2020.

Among the assumptions of vulnerability have been taken into account, among others, that the person who is obliged to pay the rental income becomes unemployed, Temporary Employment Regulation File (ERTE) or, in case of being an employer or an entrepreneur, has reduced their working hours due to care or other similar circumstances that involve a substantial loss of income.

In cases where they are people with cerebral palsy, mental illness or intellectual disability with a recognized degree of disability equal to or greater than 33%, or with physical or sensory disability, with a recognized degree of disability equal to or greater than 65% , as well as in cases of serious illness that accreditedly disables the person or their caregiver to carry out a work activity, the established limit is five times the IPREM.

In granting the aid, priority has been given according to the degree of vulnerability of the beneficiaries and in the cases of several beneficiaries with the same degree of vulnerability, women or older people have been considered a priority.

The list of beneficiaries will be published shortly in the Official Gazette of the Valencian Community and on the website of the Department.

Finally, the general director of Housing Emergency, Pura Peris, has anticipated that the Department prepares a second call for these aid "given that the pandemic continues" and thus coincide with "The ministerial extension of the term for the granting of rent aids due to vulnerability due to COVID-19 until December 31, 2021".
