The region registered a decrease in unemployment during the month of March

16 2021 April - 13: 56

Good unemployment data in March with activation of hiring and fall of ERTE. For the first time, in this month of March, we can look back a year and compare the labor data with a month of March 2020 fully affected by the coronavirus crisis, significantly changing some of the issues that can be found in year-on-year comparisons.

The number of affiliates to Social Security in March increased by almost 1.140 affiliates, reaching 52.328 affiliates, which translates into an increase of 2,22%. This data seems positive, but it must be borne in mind that the month of March is traditionally a month in which a lot of employment is created. It should be noted that in the last decade only in March 2020 there were job losses, having in all the other months of March without exception, growth in employment. Therefore, these 1.138 more affiliates in March 2021, represent a
modest increase compared to what should be seen in a year prior to the crisis.

Regarding the seasonally adjusted series of affiliates, a slight increase in affiliation is barely reflected in March, which translates into employment growth, with a variation of 0,89% compared to March 2020. It is interesting to know the sequence followed, because before the COVID-19 crisis, in February 2020, employment was growing at a rate of 2,2%. Starting in March 2020, we entered into year-on-year job losses, with times like June with year-on-year losses of more than 8% (-4.723 affiliates). It is from
July when that trend has been progressively recovering, this month of March being when for the first time since the beginning of the crisis employment increases compared to the same month of the previous year, and this is so, because for the first time we are comparing the month of March 2021 with data 12 months ago that was already affected by the crisis. Hence its significant improvement, and from what had been a rate of job destruction in year-on-year terms, it changes to positive, which means, in terms of people, an increase of 461 Social Security affiliates in one year.

The General Regime, where the majority of employed persons contribute, recovers 1.034 affiliates and added a total of 32.901 taxpayers in March, 3,24% more than in February 2021. Affiliation to the Special Agrarian Regime is the most affected sector In relative terms, it fell 1,2% compared to the previous month and decreased 6,36% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 427 affiliates.

As for the number of unemployed in the Marina Alta during the month of March, it has been a good month for registered unemployment. Unemployment has fallen by 500 people compared to February (-3,37%), reaching a total of 14.322. It has been the best month in the last two years and it contrasts very notably with what happened in March of last year, in which there was a peak of increase in the number of unemployed compared to the previous month of more than 780 unemployed. Despite the fact that there is a drop in the number of unemployed compared to February, their value continues to be above what it was a year ago.

Registered unemployment grew by 2.553 people in the last year, this annual growth represents an increase in interannual terms of 21,69% (compared to March '20).

The percentage increases in the last year have been a little more intense in the case of women. In both population groups, there are increases in unemployment, an increase of 21,90% in women and 21,43% in men, compared to March 2020. Similarly, unemployment has decreased more among men than between women, and in this first quarter of the year, the number of unemployed women is higher (8.071 unemployed, 55,35%) than men (6.251 unemployed, 43,65%).

If we analyze unemployment by productive sectors, the sector most affected compared to the previous month is the Agriculture sector (+ 2,38%), although the Services sector has the highest unemployment figures (11.136), it is the sector where unemployment fell the most compared to last February (-4,04%).

However, if we look at year-on-year rates and compare the figures for this month of March 2021 with March 2020, the numbers are much more alarming. Thus, the Agriculture sector has increased its number of unemployed in a
29,65% (+59 people), Services has increased its number of unemployed by 21,49% (+1.970 people), Industry by 12,62% and Construction by 11,16% (+68 and +154 respectively).

By calculating the unemployment rate in the Marina Alta, it is observed that it has decreased compared to February, reaching an estimated unemployment rate of 21,48%.

Again, as in previous analyzes of the labor market, it is necessary to know the evolution of the total number of ERTEs and thereby recognize the so-called “effective affiliation” -not all the people listed as affiliated to social security are effectively working- and to This must know the population in ERTE.

In the month of March, only 12 temporary employment regulation files were added in the Marina Alta, which represents an increase of approximately 26 affected workers (there are around 3.773 ERTE requested accumulated since the beginning of the pandemic that they have affected around 15.608 affiliates). As expected, the great weight of concessions is maintained in the activities of the service sector (90,4%), specifically in the activity of restaurants and food stalls (out of 26,4% of the companies with around 4.421 affiliates affected), drinking establishments (about 12,6% and around 1.568 affected affiliates), hairdressers and other beauty treatments (about 4,6% with around 342 affected workers), maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (about 2,8% and around 361 workers affected), among others.

Regarding contracts, we can also establish a comparison, which for the first time can be contrasted on an inter-annual basis with respect to the month the crisis began (March 2020) and growth in the
hiring. Thus, we have a global increase of 2,84% in recruitment (72 more than in March 2020).

By modality, we have that permanent hiring has increased by 28,06%, while in the case of the
temporary hiring there has been a reduction compared to March 2020 of 3,45%.

Compared to the previous month, the increase has been 48,77% or what is the same, 854 more contracts than in February 2021. Special mention to the fact that the hiring of women has increased, in the last month, by 56,23 , XNUMX%, while
that recruitment in men has grown by 42,69%.
