15 June 2018 - 16: 56

The school CEIP Santa María Magdalena of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell has new facilities thanks to the donation made by the Lions Club Association. This group contributed the amount of 4500 euros for the renovation of the Library, thus creating an area for promoting outdoor reading.

The improvement has consisted in the renovation of all the furniture with an inspiring project that turns the Library not only in a place that allows to have all the books perfectly ordered and conserved, but also is the closest thing to a personal shelter for schoolchildren . An outdoor reading promotion area has also been created in an outdoor space with chairs and picnic tables.

"We are aware of the importance of creating a warm and welcoming environment to encourage reading habits where schoolchildren can rest or cuddle up to read a good book. That is why we are very grateful to the Lions Club, always aware of the needs of the students. Their work in previous years, when they helped to finance the textbooks of the families without resources of the municipality, was exceptional " commented the Councilor for Education, Myra Van't Hoff.

The mayor thanked the members of Lions Club the constant involvement in solidarity with the municipality and highlighted the involvement of García García, a company that has offered a special discount to the collective because it is an initiative for public school.

Lions Club

Lions Club has been collaborating with El Poble Nou de Benitatxell for almost six years. Since then, they work closely with the consistory. They collaborate in the free textbooks, help the most needy families with food vouchers and provide prescription glasses for children with visual problems.

In April, 2016 donated defibrillators and three oxygen therapy cases with resuscitation balloons that allowed police officers and Civil Protection to practice cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers with greater precision and effectiveness. The inclusion of these devices in the cars of the agents turned the municipality into one of the most solid in terms of health improvement policy.

The collective is part of Lions International, the largest volunteer organization in the world. It currently has around 1,40 millions of volunteer partners around the world, spread over more than 45.000 clubs
dedicated to humanitarian tasks in some 210 countries.

The community of Benitatxell is in front of the president and representative of the association, Bryan Clarke and Andy Dawson, and soon the president will be Laura Rosalyn Hillstead.

Where civil society does not reach is civil society. It will be necessary to ask the local social entities to equip the sports tracks of the Avenue de Paris, in the Arenal, or create a library space in the area, in the face of neglect and oblivion to which the City Council of Xàbia and the mayor have condemned to the neighborhood.
