In Xàbia there are two main churches that cover the entire municipality, the Nuestra Señora de Loreto Church and the Church of St. Bartholomew. The first is located in the fishing quarter of the town, in the area of the Port of Xàbia, while the second is in the historic center, in front of the Town hall.

Church of Our Lady of Loreto

The Church of Our Lady of Loreto, known as the Parish of the Sea, is located in the fishing district of Duanes de la Mar. It is an avant-garde style church that began to be built in the middle of the XNUMXth century. The invocation of the Virgin of Loreto focuses on the roots of history, since in the XNUMXth century there was a hermitage in Xàbia dedicated to this virgin who was linked to the fishermen.

hermitages

Xàbia has a total of ten hermitages located in different parts of the municipality. Of the 10, four are known as Hermitages of Conquest and the other six belong to the XNUMXth century.

Hermitages of Conquest

They are so named because of the time of their construction, between the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, very close in time to the Christian reconquest. At present, of the four existing buildings, only three remain and they are all municipal property.

Hermitages of the eighteenth century

With respect to these hermitages belonging to the XNUMXth century, it should be noted that they belonged to powerful families or small agricultural owners who built these buildings on their own plots. Of the six hermitages built in the XNUMXth century, only San Jerónimo and San Vicente in les Cansalades have disappeared. The others, with more or less modifications, are still maintained, being all privately owned with the exception of the Hermitage of Santo Cristo del Calvario, which is municipal.
