They find a dead cetacean in the area of En Caló de Xàbia

August 24 from 2022 - 14: 52

This morning a group of swimmers located a dead cetacean of considerable size in the area known as En Caló, near the Cova del Llop Marí.

The Local Police, the Red Cross, municipal personnel from the Department of the Environment and the Fundación Oceanogràfic were quickly notified.

The remains, in an advanced state of decomposition, could belong to a gray pilot whale or bottlenose dolphin, according to a first inspection.

The difficult accessibility of the area and the condition of the cetacean complicate its removal, since it must be towed by sea to the Cala Granadella for its subsequent transfer to a vehicle that takes it to a management center for this type of waste.

Throughout the afternoon, all the necessary means will be organized and tomorrow, first thing in the morning, the removal will be carried out with the boat of the municipal cleaning service.

We remind you that, in the case of detecting marine animals, alive or dead, stranded both on land and in coastal waters, it is important to inform the Valencian Community Stranding Network through 112 so that the corresponding protocol is activated.
