On Saturday 4 of May at the 18: 30 hours is inaugurated, in the Gallery of Art IB Isabel Bilbao, the exhibition of Jon Barredo entitled 'She in the Sun'. A sample that will be open until the June 4.
For some time Jon Barredo (Bilbao 1950) has a unique relationship with the sea. When crossing its banks, it often rescues some of the organic materials returned by the waves to the sand, and inspired by a kind of affection, creates for them an environment where they can relocate and find a new identity.
His long research on the pictorial space, the geometry that shelters and shapes it, and the creative possibilities that drawing and color provide acquire a further meaning by hosting these marine elements. Algae like the ocean, fragments of trunks and branches, or nautical woods licked by the sea, now cast their shadow on the invented surface of a space of two-dimensional artifice where the lyric arises.
For the artist, "Fifteen years ago I presented my last individual exhibition. Since then I have not stopped painting and I have been present in numerous collective shows and events. At that time I wanted to confront on the surface of the painting the idea of the common place of uprooting, a concept of the civic ethics that I have worked on in an attempt to understand the inclusion of a stranger in a given context, using the pictorial plane as a space for experimentation that would allow me to assess a possible parallelism with the social and consider a
possible dialogue between them. "
Barredo points out that he had the feeling that he was neglecting the values proper to painting. Thus "I intend now to carry out an exercise of plastic integration in which the shadows of the objects found and placed in the painting continue to have importance in the process and the color, as an agglutinating element, acquires a greater role. In this exhibition I show that journey, a before and now in my work, I am in transit. "
