The Living Escacs Xàbia celebrates 25 years this 2021. The pioneering initiative of the Comissió de Festes
Mare de Déu de Loreto celebrates a quarter of a century in the midst of the current pandemic situation that prevents, for safety reasons, the staging of a representation of these characteristics that, every year, involves and brings together numerous people.

However, the organization of this original proposal has not wanted to miss the opportunity to share this important event with the general public, as a prelude to a future celebration at the height of the event. Therefore, following current health recommendations and seeking to guarantee the safety of all those attending, a great extraordinary concert has been scheduled under the title The Music of the Escacs Vivents de Xàbia: 25 years of a National Tourist Interest Festival.

In this way, on Saturday July 31, the Symphonic Orchestra of the Center Artístic Musical de Xàbia (which has actively participated in recent editions under the baton of its titular conductor Joan A. Bou) will offer, at 22 p.m., a magical evening that will review these two and a half decades of trajectory through its extensive soundtrack.

The repertoire that will be performed will be as varied as the themes addressed throughout the history of Escacs Vivents have been different. The public will be able to listen to works from films such as Harry Potter, Forrest Gump, the music of the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley and compositions by great authors such as R. Strauss or S. Prokofiev. In addition, the selected score will be altered with emotional moments from the history of Escacs and will include a small exhibition with some of the most representative elements and some of the most iconic props and costumes of these 25 years.

A new opportunity to value a 100% initiative that, since its creation, has always advocated for its own cultural creation, sports, children and youth in the municipality; and invited to reflection and awareness about social, historical and environmental causes.

The concert, which has the collaboration of the Department of Culture, will take place on the sports court attached to the CEIP Port of Xàbia and the ticket is priced at 2 euros, which represents a symbolic collaboration with the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the festivities in honor of the Mare de Déu de Loreto that should have been held this year and that the Festivities Commission proposes to celebrate, unique way, as soon as the health situation allows it.

In order to attend the event, it is essential to comply with all the sanitary measures (mask, hand disinfection, maintenance of the safety distance, etc.). Since capacity is limited, attendance at the event requires prior registration, which can be done by calling, Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 14 p.m. and on Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., by calling 96 579 43 44. Origin of Escacs Vivents

Els Escacs Vivents de Xàbia arose in 1996 with the aim of culturally enhancing the celebration of the XNUMXst Centenary of the festivities in honor of the Mare de Déu de Loreto and consolidating, even more if possible, the esteem that its Commission has for this sport. The uniqueness of the event is such that it humanizes all the pieces that make up the chess board to perform a theatrical performance and narrate a parallel story based on the reproduction of a game played historically or created for the occasion.

The interpretation of this large-format work is the responsibility of boys, girls and young people; and the organization and logistics are the result of the altruistic work of a group of willing neighbors. The uniqueness of the scenic proposal and its repercussion are so striking that, in 2002, it was declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest, being the only local celebration that holds this title so far.
