'Eleanor Roosevelt', the world's first fast ferry with dual gas engines already operates in Dénia

May 03 from 2021 - 11: 59

The most innovative and sustainable fast ferry in the Mediterranean, the Eleanor Roosevelt de Baleària, has been making his first trip to the Balearic Islands since last Saturday, May 1. At 17:19 p.m. he left Dénia for Ibiza, where he arrived at 22:XNUMX p.m. to set sail an hour later in the direction of Palma, where he docked at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.

More than 400 passengers and 125 vehicles were the first to enjoy the comforts and technological innovations offered by the world's first fast ferry with dual natural gas engines.

The Eleanor Roosevelt arrived in Dénia on Thursday from the Armon shipyards in Gijón, where it has been built. It is a pioneering high-speed boat in international maritime transport, whose main axes are innovation, sustainability, comfort and speed. The incorporation of the catamaran, with a capacity for 1.200 people and 450 cars, allows Baleària to increase the offer of high-speed passenger seats on this route by 60% and double that of vehicles.

The passengers who debuted the ship were able to enjoy services such as various cafeterias, a food truck on the outside deck and a children's area, as well as a free platform for digital entertainment, video surveillance of pets, Internet and WhatsApp coverage for text messages throughout the journey. In addition, the passengers received the boarding pass through WhatsApp, with the indication of the assigned seat. On the other hand, the new catamaran has high-tech innovations that considerably reduce movement, vibrations and noise, and the interior spaces are spacious and bright to offer a comfortable crossing.

The Eleanor Roosevelt is the seventh Baleària ship to use this fuel that reduces polluting emissions and that last year already allowed the shipping company to stop emitting 37.000 tons of CO2. It is estimated that each year the Eleanor Roosevelt will reduce carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to eliminating more than 8.900 conventional passenger cars or planting almost 27.000 trees. The actual fuel consumption and the efficiency of the engines will be monitored thanks to the measurement equipment and sensors installed on board, within the framework of a project co-financed by CEF funds from the European Commission.
